Swift LT for her vs. Swift LT

Post by preemiern » Mon Dec 15, 2008 11:39 pm

I recently got a new "Swift LT for Her". I do like the interface-- it took very little adjusting to get a good leak free fit. I had never used the Swift LT, so did not know how the two compared to each other, but assumed that the "LT for her" was a smaller interface overall.
Rested Gal sent me a Swift LT that she has so I could do a side by side comparison, and there is absolutely no difference in the overall size of the two interfaces! So, the only differences between the two are the color, and the fact that the LT for her has the extra small pillows instead of the large.
I just wanted to let all of you ladies who use the LT know that unless you need the extra small pillows, don't spend money to order the new "LT for her" until your old LT is completely worn out and in need of replacing...there are no other differences. Unless maybe your sleeping partner would rather see you in the light baby blue with curly-q print of the "LT for Her" rather than the dark navy blue of the LT

Thanks for the info. If any of the ladies want the light blue headgear, and already have the regular Swift LT, just buy the light blue headgear. I think it's about $39 on cpap.com.

This is a change of subject but did the Swift LT burn your nostrils when you first started using it. My DME told me that it would be full pressure shooting up my nose and that since I didn't like it when I had my titration, I probably wouldn't like it.

How does it work for you? I have to make a decision before the 24th because my 30 days will be up on my trial period.

Yes, it did somewhat and didn't seal too well at first, but, once I got the right sized pillow for me (and I guess the nostrils toughened) It has been great.

I have had it for a couple of weeks and it is very comfortable now. Keeps an excellent seal all night and my leak rate is right on or slightly below the graph in the mask manual for my pressure.

I really like this mask.

There can be another reason for not liking a nasal pillows interface during a sleep study. Not saying this is what happened, but it could be... if no heated humidifier was used during your sleep study titration, that could have caused discomfort (like stinging or burning) in the nostrils from the cold air. Some people really need some warmth in the air (I do) and some don't need any. Perhaps when using nasal pillows you need heated humidification.

I don't think it's so much a matter of the "full pressure" per se that can bother people when first trying to use nasal pillows. I think more often than not, it's the friction of the silicone inside the nostrils, or even the nasal pillows holder being pushed up against the nostrils, especially if cinched up too tight, that causes soreness or irritation.

There are ways to lessen those problems -- a bit of Ayr gel or Lansinoh, or even KY jelly dabbed on the nares (the nostril openings.) Something to ease the friction of the nasal pillows rubbing the nostrils.

Good luck, Library Teacher. Finding the right mask is the main key (imho) to being able to do this kind of treatment comfortably. And "comfort" is essential to being able to actually "sleep" with all this gear on. Now that you know some things that can make using nasal pillows easier, I wouldn't hesitate to give the Swift LT a try at home. The DME's notion of "full pressure" may not have been at all what made your first experience not so good. I'd bet more on heated humidification not being being used during the titration study.

Hi
Well I thought I was missing out on something because I did not have the Swift LT for her---and here it is just the same thing!! HA!! HA!!! LOL! Well if you use PAD A CHEEK (which I do and LOVE)--you can change the colors of the straps on the sides anyhow. I have the Blue Stars ---Karen makes some awesome strap covers-by the way --they are a MUST have with the LT. I DO LOVE the LT by the way! It is by far the best mask that I have had the pleasure of trying. I still have the Original SWIFT MIRAGE II and I am thinking of selling it--I never got to really use it as it leaked so badly --they really made some awesome improvements in the LT. It is state of the art and very well make in my opinion,

Carrie

Just wondering what mask selection to use on my S8 Elite? will the "SWIFT" selection still work with the LT? I think it was meant for the regular SWIFT mask and not the LT. Please let me know?

thanks
Carrie

I don't know much about Resmed machines but would think that the mask setting would be the same since they are both Swift masks, both nasal pillows and both made by Resmed.

Someone who knows more aobut Resmeds may give you more info.

To confirm:
"When using the Swift LT with ResMed flow generators that have mask setting
options, if available select ‘SWIFT’; otherwise select ‘MIRAGE’ as the mask
option."--http://www.resmed.com/en-us/products/se ... er-mul.pdf

Good for you for letting folks know! I figured this out a few weeks back when I got OptionCare to compare them for me side by side. The CSR and I both agreed they were exactly the same size, just with an extra set of smaller pillows.

What a crock!!!!

Oh well, at least they are TRYING! Just wish they'd TRIED HARDER!!!

Cheers,
Barbara
