Humidifier games

Post by kopoloff » Sat Dec 20, 2008 6:25 am

I started a thread a few weeks ago about humidifiers. My loan Resmed H3i was not performing very well, at least to my inexperienced eyes (nose?)

Anyway, the gist of it was that to get reliable humidification I needed to run it at 4 or 5 on its temperature scale, which is almost maxed out. Even then the amount of water it used was negligible.

Anyway, I just got my new H4i (to go with my bright shiny new S8 Autoset Spirit). I had tossed up whether to get Fisher and Paykel model that everyone raves about, but in the end I decided to go with an integrated model ( better for travelling). I had been told by a number of people that the H4i was a better beast, so I decided to try it out.

So first night, I set it to 4.

Woke up at 4.00am, and immediately felt that I had to start collecting pairs of animals to herd into my boat. The great flood had started, the bed was wet,the pillow was soaked, the carpet was wet, and when I looked outside the street was flooded, cars floating away, etc.

Seems like the H4i is significantly more effective at evaporating water. It has a much bigger heating plate and is an altogether more sensible design. Tonight I'll run it at 2 as a starting point.

Cheers

K

Very funny!
The most irritating thing in the whole world if watre on your face when you are trying to sleep. It's like that itch under your mask just when your ready to fall asleep. Never fails. If you itch it first before putting your mask on, you have it licked but forget to do that and just when your falling asleep, THE ITCH! Damn it mad!

Its good to know that the H4i works better than the H3i. Since I had the heating on this winter, had to turn the H3i up to maximum and still no good. Resmed's product info says the H4i produces 30% more humidity.
Did the H4i come as standard with the water chamber that opens up for cleaning? I've seen pictures of it on supplier's websites with 2 different types of chamber, one like the H3i, and another with a metal plate that opens up.

As far as I know, the only real difference is in the heating plate and the water chamber. The whole bottom plate clips off, giving good access for cleaning.

Ran it on 2 last night - much better. The cars are safe in the street
