Katrina -an eye-witness perspective
Here is a nice timeline but it is missing where the NO’s Office of Emergency Preparedness used the city and school buses to evacuate the poor people.
Oops! The mayor didn’t use the buses to evacuate the people.
NO’s Disaster Plan
Disaster Guide for NOs citizens
The timeline link has a nice “polite” discussion going about Katrina.

Thanks R & R and previous "Guest" posters.
Also, thanks Will for posting it. It brought out some interesting information about our local, state and federal government functions.
Unfortunately, this "disaster" in New Orleans was made worse by the failures at the lower levels first.....local then state before it got to the feds. That's where the bureaucracy starts. They were warned to evacuate the city earlier that weekend and didn't. There are (at least) three other states that probably had MORE devistation and yet New Orleans gets all of the coverage.
It's sad that everything has to be politicized.
I knew the story was BOGUS typical left wing socialists.
I hate to see this fine forum dedicated to information and support on sleep apnea issues reduced to bipartisan political bickering.
Obviously there were major mistakes made by local, state, and federal officials around this horrible and predicted disaster.
It is understandable to be skeptical of unpleasant and disturbing accounts. I would just like to point out that the story that Willsucceed brought to our attention was reprinted in the New York Times, with additional eye-witness qualifications, on Saturday, September 10.

These days, just because something is printed in the NY Times does very little to verify whether or not it's true.coffee wrote: It is understandable to be skeptical of unpleasant and disturbing accounts. I know I'm going to get in trouble for this one... so be it.

Buy a new hat, drink a good wine, treat yourself, and someone you love, to a new bauble, live while you are alive... you never know when the mid-town bus is going to have your name written across its front bumper!

Interesting comment, especially since I get lots of comments from 'most of the list' thanking me for the input that I offer. Also, to suggest that one "could care less" actually means that one does care. If you are going to go for a sarcastic insult, you could at least get it right.I and most of the list could care less what you think, I think that was very obvious.
Thanks for giving me the 'truth.' I guess you must gotten this little pearl from Ben or, the Lone Star Times.
Still laughing!
I'll stop poking you now. Really, I will.

will not succeed
Your post name is right on the money.
You will succeed in continuing your original post. I am very suprised that you continue down this path will, you are obviously well educated and help MANY people on this forum. You have also alienated yourself quite a bit by some of us who may have looked upon you as a CPAP mentor.
Long live Rock and Roll.
I already know your SA remark is coming, but KMA too.

Remember first and foremost, we as a country failed our fellow citizens! Levy
repair and construction have been cut by two thirds by the government. State, ;ocal and federal officials have known for almost 100 years of this possible catastrophe and yet no one has ever planned . Not the city, not the state and
certainly not the FEDS. Federal Emergency Management Agency oversees all
emergency plans and deemed New Orleans plans acceptable by their standards.
Also, having lived in LA, the people are among some of the poorest in our nation...These people neither had the money, the means or the help to leave the city. THe end of every month the money is gone. Many of us in the "middle class" understand this as well! And as usual, the arrogant, self centered Texicans with whom I am o so familiar are glad handing and congratulating themselves for a job well done.....
No this is not the forum and I am disgusted by the commentary.

Bill, you state statistics you have heard from the propagandizers as fact and then slander the residents of the state of Texas (of which R&R is one). These comments certainly do no good in any sort of constructive dialogue on the subject.bikernc wrote:Remember first and foremost, we as a country failed our fellow citizens! Levy

I am very uplifted by the opinions expressed by many here as I have been in the past regarding these heated topics. I, for one, am glad that they continue.
