The chamber also has a new latching system which is a breeze to close. Well, heck - I'll just take a picture and show you (sorry about the glare on the second one):

Oh! I look forward to seeing the J-tub : ) I'll take it to my DME.CorgiGirl wrote:There is apparently a newer chamber design than this...at least that's what my DME told me. It's called a J-tube and they say it has fewer leaks than the older side-by-side openings. My husband is out of town, so I can't photograph his until he comes home and my rental unit has the side-by-side style. The J-tube chamber looks to be the same clear plastic as the side-by-side, though. The humidifier unit is has different internal tubing, too.
I do like the latch, although it's the only one I've used....
I didn't have any problems with leaking on the older slide latch either. This one is definitely easier to latch though and the redesign of the rubber seal doesn't leave it as open to being disturbed or damaged.sleepngo wrote:Yes the new-es chamber is the J-tube, also the new HH is 12 V now, instead of 120v. I have the new HH and chamber and both work really good. I have taken mine apart several times now without any problems with leaking, but I also have the old style, side by side square tube chamber with the old sliding latch and it never leaked either, must have gotten a good one. I do like the new designed latch but wished that they had made the chamber a little bigger. I never run out of water but I only use 1 or bypass. I know that others run their units on higher settings and occasionally run out of water, that seems to be the biggest problem with the new chamber compared to the old tank chamber, the unit is more compact though.

Dan
Um what, Guest? The side-by-side chamber is still available to purchase because people are still using that model. The one they're calling "staggered" is also called the J-tube.Guest wrote:um guys:

I thought the J-tube type was the newest for the Normal CPAP M Series, correct?CorgiGirl wrote:Um what, Guest? The side-by-side chamber is still available to purchase because people are still using that model. The one they're calling "staggered" is also called the J-tube.Guest wrote:um guys:

The leak my DME talked about was the vapor, not the water chamber. Sorry I wasn't specific before. She said the side-by-side fittings didn't meet up with the other side on the humidifier well and the vapor leaked, wasting humidification.... The J-tube has better fittings because they actually go one inside the other.
The J-tube is part of the humidifier, not the flow generator. I'm guessing it can be used with both regular CPAPs as well as APAPs. Maybe even BiPAPs...I don't know if they need a different type of humidifier. But yes, it is the newest humidifier type which is meant to go with the M series.Needsdecaf wrote:I thought the J-tube type was the newest for the Normal CPAP M Series, correct?

gasp, here is a picture of the J-tube type. This is what I have, in my 3 month old machine.gasp wrote:Oh! At 12 volts we found it draws between 350 - 500 mA (with heater on). However, hubby noted that these numbers are an estimate as he didn't leave his fancy meter on it - it was just an amp meter (or some such thing). Can you tell I didn't pay too close attention when he started to get all technical : )goose wrote:Well if the new one runs on 12V it might be a good investment -- I have both the old style M-series HH and the HC-150. I'll use the HC-150 when I have a place to put it next to the bed.....A 12V HH would catch my interest....
If it runs on 12V it can be run on a battery.....anyone know what the current draw is??? I can use my APAP for 3-4 days on the battery before it needs recharging (it'll really go for a week but I don't like draining the battery below 50% capacity). Being a heater I would suspect it draws a bit of power.....(I know, I know -- I could just go out and try to look it up, but hey what fun would that be???? )
Thanks
cheers
