Activa blues

Post by hrosenbe » Sun Nov 14, 2004 11:21 am

Hello hoseheads,
(perhaps just hosers to fellow Canadians)

I am desperate to find a mask that fits and have tried many.
I'm currently using a Mirage Activa SHALLOW apparently one of the "best" but not so far.

I have a small face and a long narrow nose with a high bridge.

I am getting a lot of pressure soreness on the bridge. When I tighten the mask to reduce the whistling noise (and I'm only on pressure 6.5) I find the irritation is severe. I also get compression of the bellows (the pancake effect that the company insert marks with a big X) so assume this is a bad thing.

I think I can live with the somewhat annoying in and out moving of the bellows.

Should I just also live with the noisy blowing? This not just the exhale from the mask elbow. The whistle seems to be at the upper lip.

If mask is too loose the eye leakage is miserable.,

Also any ideas of how to adjust the angle of the linkage from the forehad to the top of the nasal chamber. Since I have a small forehead I find the forehead pieces are at the ahairline.

I think I should switch to nasal pillows but have heard that theyare very hard to use.

Cheers, H

Sounds like the shallow size is not the right one for you. It's designed for a flat wide asian type nose. Your high bridge would account for the leaks at the eyes and the pressure soreness. The whistle noise has happened to me very infrequently maybe your specific mask is worse.

You might try the breeze or the swift (both nasal pillow interfaces) or if you can test out another size of Activa I would try that too.

It definately sounds like you have the wrong size mask!
