Demo Bipap question

Post by kurtr » Tue Jan 29, 2008 6:45 pm

I have been given a demo Respironics Bipap Pro 2 to use by my DME while a newer bipap model comes in. I have been using a Resmed S8 in Auto mode for years.
I have not slept with it yet just tried it while relaxing to get used to it. My question is it cuts out on the pressure about 3/4 into my in breath and goes into the lower level like it is not in sync at all with my breathing.
This is the first time I have tried a Bipap. Is there something wrong?

Thanks,
Kurt

From what I have read there is an adjustment called "rise Time" or something like that. It times the IPAP and EPAP to match your breathing. Did you get a manual with the machine? Maybe someone can give you more direct instructions. Anyway not to fret. jim

I don't have any answers but want to bump this up to make it easier to find as we have bipap users and hopefully one will see it can answer your concerns.

Kurt, if you'll PM me your email address, I'll be glad to send some info about your machine. There are settings adjustments that might stop that problem for you.

The DME should have tried out all the adjustments with you. Wouldn't have taken them more than about 10 or 15 minutes to run through all of them with you, since trying them is best done while awake. My guess is that most DMEs don't do that. Some DMEs probably are not even aware of those settings that can be changed....they'd just set an EPAP/IPAP and say "Here's your machine."

Yup. No one went thru these settings with me. Luckily for me my bipap seems pretty in tune with my breathing. I hope you find the answers you are looking for.
