Medical ID bracelet for OSA?

Post by windbreather » Tue Jan 29, 2008 3:36 pm

My sleep Dr recommended that I wear a medical ID bracelet that says I have OSA. She said that in case I have to have emergency surgery, the anesthesia can make the OSA worse. And if I had a medical ID bracelet, the Drs would be more alert of my breathing. Should I get a bracelet, any thoughts?

A tattoo might work too

Bracelet sounds like a good idea though.
President-pretender, J. Biden, said "the DNC has built the largest voter fraud organization in US history". Too bad they didn’t build the smartest voter fraud organization and got caught.

I have a Medic-Alert tag that includes sleep apnea on it. Medic-Alert has my prescribed pressure.

Gee, if I have to have a medical alert for OSA too, I'm going to need a bigger wrist. Already have tags for asthma and diabetes.

What the heck. What's one more now?

Post by girlsaylor » Tue Jan 29, 2008 6:29 pm

So does anybody know of a bracelet or tag that can hold ALOT of medical conditions? Or should I just get a tag and put on it something like call my ICE from my cell phone in case of emergency, lololol.

I have a wallet card that states I have apnea. I do have a bracelet that I keep in my purse, not wanting to constantly wear it. In case of emergency treatment, hopefully someone would find one of these.

I actually use one of the Italian Charm bracelets.

I have 2 large red "crosses" on either of end of my other 2 (diabetes, asthma). I wear them on the underside of my wrist. I can then wear pretty ones (or plain silver) on the side the public sees.

I figure anyone if there's an emergency, someone will be checking my pulse and can easily see the crosses and conditions.

There are thousands and thousands of charms available on Ebay.

I have a ID Bracelet that contains my allergies, OSA, and a few other conditions plus permission to search my wallet for a wallet card I carry. I got it through American Medical ID http://www.americanmedical-id.com/

They have lots of choices for bracelets, and if you purchase through them they have a free service like Medic Alert that you can put your medical information up online.

The wallet "card" I carry has contact info both family and Dr, permission to treat, all my conditions, medications, allergies, and how to gain access to my medical info on the web site that American Medical ID provided. Plus it also says right after my personal info that

I suffer from Severe Obstructive Sleep Apnea. When Sleeping, I use an Auto-Titrating Bi-Level (Continuous Positive Air Pressure) Machine at all times. If Unconscious my air way may become obstructed. Directions for machine settings on back.

and my machine settings are listed with my conditions. My Doctor thought it also very important that I get a bracelet and include the OSA.

Here is a "FREE" Med-Alert card EVERYBODY should carry and even a few copies:
http://www.medids.com/free-id.php

Being FREE you can up-date OFTEN with DRUG LIST -- CONTACTS - Dr.'s ## and OTHER info...

I don't know about most of you -BUT- it seems The INFO changes along with DRUG LIST 3-4 times per year......... The Bracelet only give limited data and not always up-to date!!!!

I asked my Dr. about this early on. He said that in the event that I were to have emergency surgery,
I would be intubated and given oxygen and therefore he did not feel that a bracelet was needed.
Made sense to me.

That said, if one is admitted to the hospital, then the Drs. stc should be
alerted .

I recently had carpel tunnel surgery (out patient) under local anesthesia plus a twilight sleep. The
anesthesiologist told me during Pre-Op "We treat you sleep apnea folks very special" and told me to
be sure to bring my CPAP and leave it in the car just in case.

Medical ID Bracelet

Yes I think that is a great idea. I have been thinking about getting one. I have not talk to the doctor. I believe she would think it is O.K.I plan to add
that I take high blood pills on there too. Even if the doctor does not tell us to have it done.

I like the idea of a charm bracelet. Where did you get the charms with the red crosses? Do they have medical info on them?
