Chin-Up review

Post by Dgrendahl » Sun Dec 23, 2007 9:07 am

I purchased this product and have been using them and with great success. I did not like how they were suggesting they be placed on so I did a search and found on YouTube someone from England showing a much better way. I tried that and "success!" Now, I had been taping my mouth before. So, I do like the idea of my lips not actually being taped closed. Which will I use permanently? Stay tuned as I don't know.

What way did you place them for a success? Please, keep us informed as to how you like them. I am considering trying them, I cant use tape and the chin strap drives me nuts and uncomfortable. Wont use it. Need something...

I bought the variety pack to try them out. They haven't arrived yet. If they work, it would be good to know, for those people who are opposed to taping. Also, another possibility when I have a cough, which would blow the tape right off.

A woman at work, who owns a cpap and who I''ve started to try to help (slow going) is quite claustrophobic. She has a pillows mask, and that's bad enough, so I know she won't be mouth taping any time soon. This would be a great alternative if it can work.

Dgrendahl, if you still have that youtube link, it would be much appreciated if you could post it. Thanks for the info that there are different ways to use it.

If I understood the literature correctly that came with the Chin-Ups, you are to apply the two upper-sides first, THEN place the bottom part that goes under your lips. The video from England reverses this process and it works perfectly. So, what it showed was to place your lips together like as if you were going to apply tape. Place the bottom portion first under your lips leaving the two upper-side-straps (if you will) free/not placed. Then with your lips still placed together like for taping, grab a hold of the side-straps and pull them upwards and then apply them! Bam! It worked perfectly! Also, the guy from England suggests that if you wash your face first, apply some Vaseline to the area then wipe it off. That way in the morning it is easy to take off. I just chose to not wash my face and it worked grand. Cost? Well, if you like them I would purchase a years supply for then the cost of each is more than cut in half. Since I have a 30 day supply, I will use them all up and THEN make a decision as to whether I shall continue OR go back to tape. Hope this helps.

Chin-Up video from England

Post by Dgrendahl » Sun Dec 23, 2007 2:02 pm

O.K., here is the link to see the video from England:

As you view it, you will see that he tells you two different ways to apply the strip. I follow the 2nd one. Hope this helps.

I was going to go back to their website to order them. Is there another place to order them?
But I wanted to wait until someone else might have tried them to get an idea as to how they felt on their face. I realize that everything does not work for everyone, so I may be able to use them and may not. With my severe allergies and COPD, I cannot tape or seal my mouth. Too dangerous. But I think the chin-ups may work. Dgrednahl, I like your opinion so far. I may just try them.

In the other thread you mentioned cpapusa.com as the place to order them, but I looked online and found the company. They have a trial pack with free shipping. http://www.chinupstrip.com/ The trial pack has differnt types of strips in it, so I'll get to see which one works best in case I decide to order some more.

Chin-Up more info

Post by Dgrendahl » Wed Dec 26, 2007 6:46 am

Well, I have used it enough now to have made a determination if I want to be staying on it or not. My answer is "YES!" Let me tell you why. First and foremost, my lips are not being squeezed together all night as it would be when I do the taping routine. Also, if I need to cough OR drink some water during the night (I use a straw in a glass), I can do so without needing to take the tape off. It feels more normal. Secondly, when I was using the surgical tape, I would find that it wouldn't stick as well as the Chin-Up seems to do. Thirdly, applying the Chin-Up to my face just seems so easy for me...remove it from the paper it is placed on and just apply to my face. How much more simpler could it get. No more dry mouth AND no more air being exhausted through my mouth. Works for me!

Dgrendahl,
Thes look great and I am very tempted to order them. My problem with the tape is all about vanity! I'm getting nasty wrinkles around my mouth from taping.
What I wonder is, are they hard to remove? I hate the idea of not washing my face , and the thought of putting Vaseline on scares me even more! My Activa mask is dependent on my face being squeaky clean. Also, I wouldn't want Vaseline to get anywhere near my mask.
These are much larger than tape, and I sometimes have a hard time with removing just the tape!
So, do tell! And thanks for letting us know about this.

Hmm! Hard to remove? I would say it is the same as removing surgical tape, etc. I have tried it both ways on either washing OR not and for me, I am choosing to not wash. Now then, where you purchase the Chin-Ups, they also sell a product called, "Protective Barrier Wipe" of which comes in a small tear open disposable wipe. You would apply that to the area of where the tape will go and will provide for easier removal in the a.m. Maybe that will work for you. At any rate, if you try a sample of these and you like them, if you purchase their bulk offering which is a supply of 500 AND you get these wipes, it will cost you .53 cents per night. Also they are skin colored and don't look so weird when applied. Hope this helps.
