How can they justify this ?

My DME is "Praxair Healthcare Services". In March of this year I received a new mask (with headgear), and a new 6' long hose. Check out this charge........ 1 Cpap Mask Mirage Activa = $222.50......1 simple strap headgear= $41.90........... 1 6' long cpap hose = $63.00 Total charge was $327.40 How can they do this ???? My insurance paid $179.00 with the remaining balance to be paid my me. I realize they are certified in this type of medical equipment distribution BUT is does seems to me to be a bit much. Any thoughts here ? When it comes time to replace my Bilevel machine...hummmmm not sure what I'll do but I will check out some prices before I make any quick decisions. oops... one more thought.... if my machine breaks down , I will probably be forced to go through my DME. anyone have any thoughts on this ?

You've got that right!

For what they have left you to pay out of pocket you could have purchased the items outright online.

Seems the only one your insurance is benefiting is the DME.

Next time around see if you can submit a claim to your insurance yourself and buy the items online. That's what I did. Even if you still have a copay it's a % of the smaller total and you will be doing your part to keep insurance rates down and the DMEs honest.
