please help!
Hi,
My aussie heated hose finally kicked the bucket last night. I thankfully ordered a new one last week, but it hasn't come yet. I'm somebody who really needs heat in the hose to sleep, and winter is coming on fast. I didn't even use my bipap last night because the air was too cold. Is there any kind of "quick fix" to heat my air in the short term until my new hose comes? I was thinking, for instance, of starting off the night with very hot water in my tank... might something like that work? Please help!

Re: please help!
Very hot water doesn't work in my experience. too much rainout.
Try wrapping your hose up well in whatever you can find - bandages, ladies hosiery/socks with the toes cut off, sleeves, tubigrip, threaded on the hose and use elastic bands (put the elastic bands on the hose first, and fix the covers as you thread them) or tape them together - (sticky paper tape like micropore is best).
Or if you're handy, you could run up a cover from fleece on your sewing machine.
Keep the hose in bed with you, you may need to reposition your machine for the night, coil the hose if you can and put the hose on the hot water bottle. Put a cover on the hot water bottle ( a pillow case or an old jumper to retain the heat all night) Those bean bags you heat in the micowave work well too but not for the whole night.
There are some old threads about using reptile cage warming flex to warm the hose. I'm not recommending it mind, just giving you the info!!!
Good luck. I can't function with a cold hose either, it's misery.

Re: please help!
Got a Radio Shack there? It's probably not the hose but the DC adapter. Check the output with a voltimeter. If it's dead, just replace the adapter (match the voltage AND the amperage).

Re: please help!
Yep. Get a new power supply, and while you're at it, get it for slightly more ampers than the original one.
The original recommendation is 2A 12 volts.
2.5 A 12 volts, instead of 2 A will keep the power supply from overloading, overheating and dying.

Can you measure/do you know the resistance of the heater wire?

Re: please help!
You might consider where you put your air pump. The intake, or where the air goes into the pump may be moved to a warmer place in the room, or next to the heater.
Re: please help!
All good ideas. I remember reading here someone who used a heating pad. Or just increase the room temp.
Good Luck

But the guy at the shop, who recommended the move to 2.5 ampers did measure (I brought the hose along).
Why?

Although "working" or "not working" would tell you all you need to know.
I just like saying "check the integrity" and "measure the resistance".
It shows my "métier".

Re: please help!
There are instructions on here how to make your own heated hose using a reptile heater. when my aussie dies i plan on giving that a go. Much cheaper and involves just a few readily available pieces of equipment to get it going.
Will have to see if i can find that link if it has not been posted all ready.

Re: please help!
Your Aussie hose may not be connecting any more............before you throw it, bend the prongs a little where the power supply connects to the hose and retry it. That fixed the problem for me.

Re: please help!
Thanks for all the info! I did buy a new power supply, unfortunately that did not fix the problem. The hose DOES heat (although not to the extent that it used to) but for some reason stops heating once I turn the air on. I tried changing the outlets as well, which does not seem to work. Someone suggested that I wrap an electric blanket around the hose, which I plan to do. Has anyone tried this?
