Alternative to CPAP wipes?

Post by ICantGetNoSleep » Thu Jul 05, 2007 8:44 pm

I wipe my mask daily with CPAP wipes and was wondering if there was an alternative that I could use like baby wipes? Are there any brands in particular that I should use/avoid?

Products like these convince me even more that our money is being sucked from us.

Problem with most wipes is they contain things that will leave a film on your mask - Aloe Vera, Vitamin E oil, etc. Most also contain alcohol in one form or another - which breaks down the silicone.

You're better off just rinsing the mask in tap water, and if you can, use a pure soap like Dr. Bronner's.

Cheers,
B.

I currently have a stash of Nasal Aire II cannulas in Small or Extra Small. Please PM me if you would like them. I'm interested in bartering for something strange and wonderful that I don't currently own. Or a Large size NAII cannula. :)

The owner of my DME suggests Equate Anti-bacterial from the pharmacy section at Walmart. Make sure you get the one without alcohol.

Caution! I brake for Elves, Fairies, Gnomes, Leprechauns, Unicorns, Dragons & and other invisible creatures only I can see!

Most baby wipes contain moisturizing ingredients. I have a 2 year old who is now out of diapers....but she had horrible diaper rash as a baby and I researched baby wipes. I wouldnt use them on your mask.

Great! Only 5% alcohol! I'm gonna run right out and get some of these!

Let me see now, I get a new mask every 6 months from ins. co. I wipe my mask down every night with baby wipes, mask 3 months old, looks like new.
I just want to go back to sleep!

I've been using the BZK wipes since starting xpap. I wipe my mask daily. The CL2 has over 6 months use and it looks and works good as new.

Why wipe it out at all daily? Doesn't the drying out period kill any germs?

I have oily skin and clean my mask daily with Citrus II http://www.citrus2.com which seems to do a good job when combined with washing my face right before bedtime. I'm able to get a good seal when I use this process. Regards

I agree that people with oily skin (like my hubby) can benefit from the Citrus type wipes. Once he started using them, the reddness stopped.

I wash my mask in warm water with some baby shampoo to make it sudsy every couple of days. I find it leaks less if I do that, and the manufacturer's pamphlet suggests baby shampoo. It specifically says not to use vinegar, which I know some folks use.
