Back to the Vista - WOW! What a night!

Post by azaloune » Wed Jul 04, 2007 7:19 pm

After 4 nights with the F & P 481 Infinity I am back to the Vista. The 481 has rubbed a very tiny sore in my right nare, and caused my front teeth and gums to ache. (The mask is designed so it's entire weight sit's on your upper lip) The sore has been treated with a gel the DME gave me. It is better this morning. My teeth and gums are less sore.

I went back to the Vista last night and I had the best night! 10 hours on the machine!!! NO APNEAs and 4 Hypopneas!!!!! AND NO LEAKS!!!! I felt like I could climb Everest this morning!! Why am I trying new masks if this one makes me feel no great?

It could also be that the rain finally stopped! We had no rain yesterday for the first time in 20 days!

I am still on a quest for a full face mask that can be used by a claustrophobe that could not get the hybrid to stop leaking.

And the search continues......

Ten hours of mask time - WOW is right! Glad to hear it.

Mirage Vista

Post by gasp » Fri Jul 06, 2007 9:57 am

EDITED POST
I edited this to update my experience with Vista.

I did get over 10 hours of sleep on this mask - yeah! I have also been able to lower my AHI consistently below 2 and even achieved 0 one night.

I've gotten used to the exhaust. I fixed the leak at top of the mask by rotating it using the side adjustment mechanism. I still have a bit of mask condensation. The headgear is comfortable, but I do get tired of putting the straps back into their rubber band like holders (kind of like the piece that holds a wrist watch strap in place).

ORIGINAL POST:
Glad to hear you had a great night. I am soooo jealous - 10 hrs - nice!

Last night was my first night on the Mirage Vista.

Pros
-Great for side sleeping!
-Less pressure points - For me there are two. Bridge of nose and under nose. (Better than Comfort Gel that has pressure points on forehead, pushes up into eye area, and all around nose area.)

Cons
-High volume of exhaust - nice in this hot weather though : 0
-Repeated leak at the bridge of nose
-Mask condensation
-Headgear straps versus velcro. Hard to adjust and the design of the headgear needs to have more adjustable points for a better fit
-Plastic on mask could be softer to help spread out pressure points on the bridge of nose and below nose

Even with these cons, I like this mask better than the Comfort Gel nasal mask and the Mirage Swift II nasal pillow mask. The MSII leaked during the night and would need modification to be able to sleep on both sides.

Any hints on how to reduce cons? I hope this mask leads to 10 hours sleep for me!

Have you found the tilt buttons on the sides? They are part of those hard plastic sides that are different from other masks I have tried. Once you find them, try going up 1 notch on the tilt.

I had to put my mask on, lay down, turn my machine on and play with the tilt to find just the right setting. Also, don't assume with this mask that each side of the headgear straps are equal. My head may look the same on each side, but it is not.

The slide at the top of my mask, (the crossover) has to be adjusted every night. But, since that is the only thing I have to change nightly, it is worth it.

I have decided this is my 'go to' for my nasal mask. But, I still want the infinity to work. I'm also looking for the perfect full face for a claustrophobe.

Hope this helps!!

THANKS! Silly me - I thought my DME would have showed me this feature. I'll go try it right away. I spent a hour this morning adjusting the straps and worked to get each side fitting rather than making symmetric. Not too far off between the sides. Is it worth doing something to keep the top slide from moving?

I too am trying to find a full face that fits my face and doesn't make me feel like I'm suffocating. My ComfortFull 2 doesn't fit my face and I need a FF mask for those nights when I can't breathe through my nose. Please post as you go through your hunt for a FF mask.

You are quite welcome for the information.

The crossover sliding is not a big issue. I think, I start out with it where I want it, and it adjusts as I adjust the mask at night in my sleep. It is not bothersome unless my hair gets into it. I just added a headband/ponytail holder that is made to hold your hair while you are cleansing your face. It is made by scunci. It is very soft and not tight at all.

So far, I have tried the Hybrid and the Hans Rudolph VIP 7600. I could not get the hybrid to stop leaking, and the HR VIP is very heavy. Too heavy for me to use for more than an hour.

I tried a UMFF for about 20 seconds at my titration study, just long enough for me to start to freak out. My claustrophobia and an allergy to some polymers is what is causing my full face search issues.

I am working towards getting a Liberty, (thru local DME and insurance). Since I am to be their guinea pig, they are working towards getting at least a reduction in cost. I will keep you posted.

I don't use nasal- but rather a face mask- and just gotta say, adjusting these masks is a pain- but I've recenty resorted to stuffing my face into the pillow when My mask starts to leak and wakes me up (Although I make sure the exhaust vent isn't blocked) - I just get so tired of adjusting that I now use the pillow to 'mash the mask tighter onto my face' instead of adjusting mask straps lol- seems to work (until I roll my head the other way lol)

LOL! Glad you don't block the exhaust! I'd try this method if it wasn't for the possibility of blocking the exhaust.

Sizing

Post by Murphy » Sat Aug 04, 2007 5:55 pm

What size Vista are you using? I want to try is and I used the cpap sizing and that said I should get deep, but I use a small in my FF mask. Does it run small?

LOL, I do that with my UMFF too. I think my face is too small for it, if it gets nudged AT ALL it pushes up far enough to get eye leaks or down far enough to start leaking around the chin. Lately, it's started having "blow outs" around the cheeks. I turn on my side so my face is downward and basically just let the whole weight of my head smoosh down into the mask. Those deep furrows make some interesting patterns when I wake up in the mornings.

Gasp,
Our measurements are very close on #1 I have 1 7/8 and I have round nares but everything else is identical. I'll check with my DME tomorrow to see when I can order another mask and I will get a deep, and will keep you posted. On FF I just recently got a F&P 432 in a small and just love it, but I did have to take the inside foam out because it was closing my nose. If you haven't tried it yet it might work for you too.
Thanks
Eileen
