Virtual Masks and Liens

Postby Croupier on Sun May 06, 2007 8:21 pm

I have been dreaming of ways to circulate the masks and have come up with the following idea.

Lets say we have the following situation:

A trader, lets call him/her TraderA has a mask, lets call it MaskA and wants to trade for another mask, lets call it MaskB.

But another trader, TraderB has a mask MaskB but wants a different mask, lets call it MaskC.

And there is a third trader, called TraderC has MaskC but wants the mask that TraderA has, MaskA.

So nobody trades because no-one has the mask they want.
(In the words of Gilbert and Sullivan, in the Mikado, Here's a howdy doo)

But if TraderA sends MaskA to TraderC in exchange for what is called a Virtual Mask, a lien on the MaskC that TraderC has. So TraderC edits her mask offer to say that her mask offer includes "MaskC has a lien on it by TraderA and I will send it anywhere that TraderA wants".

Ok , hold your breath.
TraderB wants MaskC which is now owned by TraderA. So...

TraderB says to TraderA. I will send you the mask I have,MaskB, cos you own MaskC which is the one I want.

TraderA says, yes you are on. Send me MaskB and I will tell TraderC who actually is still holding MaskC to send it to you.

So he asks TraderC to ship MaskC to TraderB

And and and, hold your breath......

Everyone has the mask they wanted.

So lets try to make those masks circulate.

I suggest we use a new house rule.

A trader can offer a Virtual Mask in place of the actual mask in a trade.
If the offer is accepted, the real mask offer is edited to show it has now a lien placed on it and the name of the lienholder given. This mask is only sent under the direction of the lienholder.

Phew, if anyone else understands this and wants to try it, edit your offer to indicate that Virtual Masks may be accepted in trade.

Let the masks move.

Give a Mask(Virtual or Real), Get a Mask, maybe win a mask!!

Borrowing a Comfort Lite 2

Postby JohnMudie on Mon May 14, 2007 6:27 pm

When I went to the sleep clinic, they recommended that I use a Confort Lite 2. As a result of seeing my posting on Mask Roulette, Babette has offfered to lend me her one for a while.

This will give me a chance to try it out and maybe see if I can reduce my leak rate.

Many thanks Babbette

Lets give or lend each other masks

Postby Croupier on Sat Jun 02, 2007 10:10 pm

The original idea of Mask Roulette was to trade masks but that doesn't seem to be working because it is really rare that the traders match. The Vitual Mask idea doesn't seem to work either.

BUT WHAT IS WORKING IS THE IDEA OF GIVING AND LOANING MASKS.

A couple of gifts/loans have occurred to the satisfaction of all concerned.

The giver/loaner no longer has an unwanted mask cluttering up his shelves and the recipient gets a mask to experiment with.

Shipping is comparatively painless if you use USPS Click and SHip
https://sss-web.usps.com/cns/landing.do and the recipient can send the postage $4.60 ( and maybe box cost) via
http://www.paypal.com

And of course the givers/lenders can be acknowledged and thanked in
http://www.cpaptalk.com/viewtopic/t19548/MASk-ROULETTE-Reports-on-trades.html

So give a mask, lend a mask and help reduce leakage rates.

The Croup

Thanks Babette for coming up with the idea.

Help and Ideas wanted

Postby Croupier on Sat Jun 02, 2007 10:45 pm

There is a job opening for an assistant croupier to compile and keep current short lists like those above to list possibly available and wanted masks.

Also do we want to abandon the trade concept and just have one list of wanted masks and one list of available masks

What's the matter? Didn't anyone send YOU a mask? I've got several now, you want one?

This is a great idea. I've been wanting to try the Bravo and just traded a Nasalaire II for one. I thought I'd have to wait until I could get one through my insurance. Thank you for coming up with this idea, Croupier!

Do we want to offer items for sale on Mask Roulette

Postby Croupier on Thu Jul 05, 2007 10:42 pm

From a recent posting the main Mask Roulette thread..

Selling for a friend:

....
I take PayPal and money orders.

Will for $20 or best offer.

.....

The original idea behind Mask Roulette was that it was set up for mask trading and swapping and the original house rules did not specify or include buying and selling.

Until this point Mask Roulette has handled trades and gifts and there has no been no selling. Offer to sell have been made elsewhere.

So my question before CPAPTalk is do we want to keep Mask Roulette a trading/ giving thread or do wish to include "commercial" activities like offer s for sale.

Personally I would like to keep it a swapping/giving operation and let those who want tp get into commercial transactions set up their own thread.

But clearly the Mask Roulette thread has taken on a life of its own and this Croupier will respond to wishes of CPAPtalk as a whole.

Croupier, I really appreciate you making an example of me in this case, and not going after the other parties on Mask Roulette who also have offered, and continue to offer masks for sale.

I have deleted the offending posts and started my own thread.

B.
