First Night with the full face - Trouble

Post by brackstone » Sat Mar 31, 2007 12:02 pm

Well I got the full face mask (UMFF) and I must say it's very comfortable.

However I seem to have a breathing problem still and I wanted to know if anyone else has experienced this.

No matter what mask I use just when I'm about to fall asleep I seem to stop breathing for a few seconds. If I open my mouth I know I can breath but it feels like my sinuses are just completely shut for some reason.

I didn't notice this at all when I was using my Swift. I know I was mouth breathing with my swift and that's why I was waking up with such a dry mouth and nose. However when I fell asleep I didn't notice this sensation of my sinuses closing up on me.

Then I attempt to open my mouth to start to breathe and my cheeks to expand like a hampster storing up food because of the air rushing in. Then mask feels like it's moving up and down on my face and I wake up from that.

Anyone have any advice?

those sound like onset centrals. What is your Min EPAP pressure set to?

Those onset events eventually go away using the machine. If I attempt to doze off without the machine those startle me back awake where I know it is time to put the machine on. Once I'm on the machine they go away.
someday science will catch up to what I'm saying...

Is EPAP pressure the expatory pressure? if so it's set to 4.

What is an "onset event" is that what happens when I'm just about to fall asleep? If so it's true because when I was using the swift I had the same problem. Sometimes I'd be just about to fall asleep and I would jerk myself awake.
