EPR or pressure relief can help this. I have also noticed the mask you use can affect this. Like when I use the Airfit P10 my aerophagia seems to be much worse. Lately I have been using the Nuance nasal pillows and I now have very little gas and aerophagia with the same settings on my machine.

You can try The Zonker Protocol, pioneered by member Zonker

  • Set your minimum and maximum pressures sufficiently low, so you don't experience aerophagia. Because your pressures are below what your needs are, you will likely experience more events.
  • Keep it at these levels for a week.
  • Increase your pressures by 0.2
if you experience aerophagia, go back reduce back
  • Wait another week, and keep repeating.
Zonker used this approach and over a period of months was able to increase his pressures to address hs Apnea properly without suffering from aerophagia. Your goal is a Max Pressure with no limit, Min Pressure to adequately address your needs and no aerophagia.

Perhaps Zonker will comment further.

forum friend dog slobber has put this much more succinctly than *I* ever could. i just want to add that i started out at *around* a min pressure of 7. i'm too lazy to look it up, but somewhere in that ballpark.

i had been at it for many years and was reaching my wit's end. i'd read on this forum, time and again, that the only way i was going to eliminate my events was with more pressure. and yes, that worked. but what was the point of lower ahi IF I WASN'T SLEEPING DUE TO THE GAS PAIN? seemed like it was never going to happen.

finally, i said #@%$ it and went back to start over. as i said, started out at 7 with max of 20. after many months, got that min up to 17.8, where it is today, with no aerophagia issues.

TO THE OP: it could work for you. we may be putting the cart in front of the horse, though. there are many people who just naturally adjust and aerophagia goes away. you don't say how long you've been on the machine.

another thing is that each of us is different and how we adjust is different. it may go away in a few days. or weeks. it's just hard to speculate on it.

good luck!

but that's enough about them.

please come back to this thread to update us. i know that this will be a long process and may take time to see any results. so i don't expect a daily briefing.

but feel free to come in and let us know, when applicable.

we're rooting for you.
