Starting CPAP w/Septum Piercing Irritation

Post by pumpkinpie » Mon Sep 09, 2019 2:43 pm

Hello all,

I'm just starting my CPAP therapy this week and am having a lot of trouble with it emotionally and physically.
One trouble I'm finding is that my septum piercing is becoming very irritated (I think by the extra moistness from the humidifier).
Does anyone have experience with this happening to them or someone they know?
Any tips or tricks?

I have a resmed and a wisp nasal mask.

I use a full face mask the Resmed Airtouch/Airfit F20, no issue other than drooling. I do like the Dreamwear FFM (looks like Bane) too. I have to adjust the nasal hole just right to get the pressure off the piercing. Most nights I use the Airtouch, just overall easier.

My sister is a professional body piercer, so I checked with her. Assuming it's a healed piercing, she said you probably need to take it out when you sleep and put it back in when you wake up. If the jewelry isn't there, it's just skin and shouldn't be any more irritated then any other part of the inside of their nose.

And if it continues to be irritated, it might need medical attention.
Piercings/tattoos are sometimes contraindicated.
For example, my continuous glucose monitor can not be applied over a tattoo.
So glad I never was tempted to decorate my arms.

I doubt that's the problem, but the humidity level can be turned down or off. Many don't use a humidifier at all.
