Resmed Airsense 10 Motor Noise
Hey all,
I just finished a 1.5 month trial on a Dreamstation from my medical device supplier. I was using a loaner machine. When I went to get my own personal machine, my doctor (and lots of people online) recommended the Airsense 10 over the Dreamstation.
Unfortunately, I have noticed that my Airsense 10 produces a 'whirring' sound. This sound starts in the machine itself, and I believe it is the motor. The whirring changes with my breathing patterns, and the sound travels through the tube into my dream wear mask. I went to my supplier today and they let me A/B it with another machine, and it seems to be the 'standard' sound from that device. I have to admit, it is hard to get used to after having a silent dreamstation for over a month. The Resmed does perform better then the dreamstation it seems though (My average AHI on Dream was 3-5, and i've been under 2 for the Airsense).
Does anyone have any tips on how to muffle or get rid of this sound? I have a 6 foot respironics tube, with a cover on it. The cover does no good for absorbing sounds.
Thanks!
Paul

Try popping it on a spongy surface like a neoprene mouse mat

Tried it with a towel and no effect, will the mat be better?

Maybe not. Stick you fingers in your ears does the sound change ? Is this conducted sound through your mask hose or audiable noise from the machine. I can hear my breath sounds but not the fan with my Resmed.Flex Plexico wrote: ↑Thu Jan 24, 2019 2:09 pmTried it with a towel and no effect, will the mat be better?

Re: Resmed Airsense 10 Motor Noise
I sleep with ear plugs in, so all the outside sound is gone but this sound is actually transmitted through the hose and into my dreamwear mask, so I can hear it through my head. If you put your ear up to the machine, it is the same sound but a little louder. Its definitely the motor noise. What kind of hose do you have? I was thinking of trying the climateline heated hose and seeing if there is a difference there.
Re: Resmed Airsense 10 Motor Noise
It's conducted noise.
How do you have the hose routed? Is it laying on the bed? Routing the hose up overhead might help reduce the noise.
A hose cozy might also help.

I have a out of warrantee ResMed S10 with a motor that is “blown” at a cost of $500 to replace the motor. Your description of the sound is how I would describe my machine.

I have the AirSense 10 AutoSet for Her and it is quieter than the Dreamstation I had before. I think something is wrong with the machine.

Usually, it's the Respironics machines that people (including me) complain about varying motor whine.Flex Plexico wrote: ↑Thu Jan 24, 2019 1:18 pmHey all,

You could raise your pressure a little bit, that might change the sound to something less objectionable, or even inaudible (because the fan will be going a little faster). (and might have the side benefit of lowering your AHI even more).

Re: Resmed Airsense 10 Motor Noise
Hi
I have exactly the same problem
I have an older s10 which is perfect no noise
Just bought a second hand one with only 42 hours on it
From states I’m in Australia
I needed second one for travelling
After a couple minutes use this whirring starts and is much louder on inhale no way I can sleep tried cover it with towels boxes on the floor
Back to my old one perfect
How can a machine with 42 hours have such a problem
Look like there are quite a couple with same problem
I don’t want to spend 500 for new motor
And don’t want to send back to USA for repair each way costs 100
Please let me know the resolution when fixed
Thanks
U can even email me at fendel@iprimus.com.au
Thanks
Joel
The noise is definetly coming from inlet on side where filter is
Even with fingers in ears can still hear

Switch your mask. I would get that noise from my Aircurve when I wore the dreamwear mask, when my dog chewed up my frame and I got a new one the noise was gone.

It was Kiska. My bad. I left the mask on the bed. She thinks it is her bed when we are not home. As long as I put stuff where it belongs she doesn't chew it.

Dog Owners can be hard to train, But even I don't approve of hitting them with a rolled up newspaper. I let the cat in the bedroom when I am there, but if I am out, the door stays shut.
I do have to latch it, because she can open it if it is open even a crack.
