FREE sleep studies at a very nice facility (Santa Cruz, CA)

Post by djams » Sat Jan 19, 2019 1:07 pm

I've using a SleepTracker smart bed to better understand my sleep. Really nice setup, it's two sensor pads that you place between your mattress and box springs. If you sleep alone, use one sensor. If you have a partner, use two and it tracks both of you. Don't wear anything, don't charge anything. Just get in bed at night.

The company behind the technology (fullpower) maintains a full sleep lab to constantly test the sleeptracker's performance against polysomnograph results. They claim better than 90% accuracy on the SleepTracker's ability to distinguish between the different stages of sleep.

Anyways, I was searching their site for something else, and noticed this link. Wanted to get it out there for anyone in the area, or within a couple of hours. It's a great opportunity. I'm kicking around the idea of signing up my wife(never has had a sleep study) and myself, and planning a vacation around it. We enjoy San Francisco - plenty of things to do in an around this area. :)

The sleep tracker sounds really cool. Have you been able to gather insights about your slumber with it? If the data's really there, I would really want one for myself!

Edit: Just realized I missed the point of the thread, sorry, you got me curious about the tracker.

Far as I'm concerned, conversation about SleepTracker is fine. If nothing else it'll keep the info about the free sleep study on the front page for a bit. :)

There's no way I can tell on the accuracy. I've chosen to take them at their word - 90% accurate. I've done some comparisons of the sleep analysis graph's "restless periods" to SleepyHead's flow rate chart. The sensors pick up all of my significant arousals, not the smaller ones. It's very good at identifying awake vs. asleep times.

They store the data for a rolling 12 month period for free. So you can spot variances over a years time frame. You can of course upgrade, and they'll store the data forever.

There is AI CBT based coaching, and I have made changes base on this coaching that made a difference for me. Also "community insight" - how my sleep compares to people "just like me". Daily tips/comments about last night's sleep. So far I'm glad I bought it. It gives a reliable heart rate and respiratory rate as well.

So far, I'm glad I bought it. I've had it since late November of 2018.

@David1447 Here's a link to the user's guide to give you an idea of what you see every day. Gotta say, this doesn't touch on everything by a long shot.
