I married the Swift FX Headgear to the P10 frame/pillow

Post by Pugsy » Wed Dec 12, 2018 4:17 pm

So I did it...surgery on a P10 frame that was going in the trash anyway.

Anyone care to know what I did?

It's comfortable and workable and if a person puts strap covers on the sides of the headgear no one would likely even notice.

It will take me a bit to get pictures....I have to do them on the phone and email them to myself and then do some more stuff to get them in a post. Right now I have only the end result and one picture but I know people might want steps...but I wasn't going to go to all that work if no one cared. I am a lazy sot.

This is all I have for right now.
More later as I have time.
You have to cut the little arm off the P10 down where you would slide the headgear on. There's a little space or nub sort of thing and that's where I cut the arm off. Left the bottom of the frame...fed it through bottom of the slot in the headgear so that it goes up and to the outside a bit...then taped it in place.
Gorilla tape...my best friend.

I thought I'd seen that before.... or was that something else frankensteined onto a P10? *scratching head*

I did do it before (year or 2 ago) but I didn't butcher the little arms off the P10. I just slid them up the sides and taped them down but they sort of stuck out a bit. At the time I didn't have a P10 to sacrifice to do it right. I did mention cutting the arms off but no one did it I guess.
Or they never told me if they did.
So you have seen something similar from me but it didn't have the surgery to make it permanent.

So Pugsy, are you using this? If so how are you liking it? Curious minds want to know. :)

Ah man....I marry them and you want me to use them too.
I don't particularly like the Swift FX headgear any more    that's part of why I use the P10. It's not horrible headgear but it leaves nasty dents on my face (mainly my skin's fault there) and remember my overall preference for anything.........as little on my face and head as possible.

I didn't do this for me...I did it for those of you all that have said "I wish there was some way to use the P10 pillow with the Swift FX headgear"....exact quote I have heard often. I already knew it could be done but my first marriage didn't involve surgery....which by the way I did sleep all night with that one and did just fine. When I did that marriage I didn't have a P10 frame to sacrifice to the needed surgery to make it work the best. The other day I was washing my stuff (I know...one of those rare times) and I decided time to retire that frame and it made a good candidate for surgery.

I did take an hour long nap with it to see if I noticed the marriage joints. I didn't. I wondered about it and if I had noticed the joining area already had a little way to cozy it up already working in my brain. Non issue for me anyway.

If enough people will get down on their hands and knees and beg me to sleep with it all night  ....I will take one for the team and do it and use it all night.  But I am already confident it will work as designed well enough for me....now will it work well for you all.....that's just another one of those things that has that big YMMV sticker on it. Everybody has different wants, needs and preferences and yours may not match mine....and that's fine.

Essentially the marriage gives people the adjustability of the Swift FX headgear and the silence and diffused venting of the P10.
I am quite happy with the P10 headgear even with it's little disadvantages....so this was done for you guys...not out of my own personal needs.

My own personal needs will likely be finally fulfilled when I get to try the Bleep/DreamPort....my own personal wants and preferences...no head gear at all. That's a big want of mine.

Does the SwiftFX headgear stretch like the P10? I know we need to periodically shrink the P10 headgear.

Not really. The bulk of the Swift FX headgear is silicone which won't stretch at all. Only the back strap is elastic and it has velcro on it to take up any slack that might occur over time with it stretching.

It appears this is the part? I see CPAP.com includes some soft wraps. Perhaps they could protect your fragile face. ;)
