Got my new BiPap Auto M

Post by allend » Wed Jan 31, 2007 4:49 pm

I figured, since it was an auto, the DME would take advantage of that. Pretty stupid huh? Even if they didn't want to make any changes without speaking to the sleep doctor, they could have called him.

My settings are 8 and 11 for the BiPap Pro 2. That is exactly what I have on the on the Auto...a BiPap Pro 2. I don't know how the autos work but I would imagine appropriate settings would be something like 7 and 15 in the auto mode or 1 less on the exhale and 4 more in the inhale. The PRESSURE would be 8. Does that sound logical? Why I went down one and up 4 I have no idea.

If these are good settings, should I make these changes and how do I get that into the BiPap Auto M?

This is a very noisy machine that doesn't have a constant sound. like the BiPap Pro 2. On mine, you can hear each inhale and exhale.

A bi-pap pro 2 is NOT an auto.

No, the old one was the BiPap Pro 2. The new one is the BiPap Auto M.

I did but she's on vacation now and I decided to speak to the RT in my doctor's office before I do anything. If she says leave it alone, I will ask the dr. what he would do in my shoes and I know what he'd say..or her too.

They've got to personalize these things as if it were happening to them. If they still say no, I will be really pissed and I will do it myself anyway because you get no information, I don't think, unless you are in Auto mode.

To get into the setup for the bipap auto M -- unplug machine - hold both arrow keys down while replugging it.. (Is that a word -- replugging???) Then enter setup with the + key. Use the + or - keys to go through the setup menu and change options with the arrow keys as desired.

I would leave Epap min at 8 and probably Ipap max at 15, if 'twas me. Mine was set at both extremes and I found it extremely difficult to breathe when it started out at 6 and 4.

My M also changes sounds when exhaling and inhaling. For you with the bipap auto TANK does it change sounds very much as you inhale and exhale? I had a Bipap plus/biflex before the auto and it did not change sounds and was very quiet.

Allen, this may not be exactly what you wanted to know but maybe it will help some.

Thanks so much. That is simple enough, except for the replugging and pressing both buttons at once. 15 sounds good on the inhale and so does 8 on the exhale, I am not sure what you meant by TANK, isn't that what you have?

Do you know Donovan? Your name reminded me of his song called "Josie"

My Bipap Pro 2 was consistent, which sounded quieter to me. This BiPap Auto M has that ominous sound of a B rated horror movie.

Allen,

Sure I know Donovan - call me Mellow Yellow - right?

About the machine - The M has buttons with arrows one pointing right and one left at the top. Unplug the cord directly from the back of the bipap.
Hold down both of these arrow buttons (not keys - sorry) - now plug the cord back into the back of the bipap. Hold for a few seconds then let go. In the upper part of the screen you should see a lock opened- then use the arrow buttons and the plus and minus buttons to move through the therapy mode screen. Now on the pro 2, I have no info. what I have is the M series Bipap auto with biflex. Sorry, I am not very good at explaining things.

Oh, and the TANK refers to the regular Remstar Bipap auto, which is larger, supposedly, than the M,(which is why I requested the M to begin with.) However, with the humidifier attached the M is no smaller than the regular model. I think we have Goofproof to thank for naming the regular machines "Tanks".

Respironics auto bipap M users:
I have been on CPAP for nearly a year using an auto S8 Vantage.
I just switched to a respironics auto bipap M and last night was my first night!
I have a few questions about this machine since it is quite different than by S8.

1) when I looked at the data on the screen this morning it says my session was only 5.11 hours and I know that I slept 8 hours. However, I got up once during the night to go the bathroom and turned the blower off and then back on at that time. What do you do to maintain a night as one session? When you get up in the night, do you just leave the blower going? Or maybe people don't care because they rely on their software rather than the little viewing screen.
The S8 just records all data in a 24 hr period as one session and so didn't have this issue.

2) Also, do folks leave the bipap unplugged during the day? I don't want to burn out those little backlite blue buttons.

Please note that I have the software and cardreader but haven't got that far yet.
Mainly because I need to buy a new MAC first which will run Parallels software.

Maryb,

I leave mine plugged in during the day. I keep intending to get a new surge protector so that I can just turn everything off but I keep putting it off. Like you, I have been concerned about the little blue lights burning out.

I have also noticed that the hours on the screen do not match the hours I know I have slept. Don't really know why. That makes me wonder about the reliability of the rest of the data on the screen. As of yet, I have not checked it by other means.

Ellie-
I've decided that the data on that little screen is pretty much worthless.
It gives you the weekly and monthly average. I want to see the daily stats.
Therefore, I'd better get the software installed and get going.
A new software adventure!

Maryb, do you notice the change in sound very much as you exhale and inhale? It still bothers me some. I wonder if the "tank" model of auto bipap does this also? My tank bipap did not change sounds and was very quiet. Yes, software will be great except on those days when you get no data. I still have that problem periodically. Can't see any rhyme or reason as to when it occurs tho.

Hi elliejose:
Having used both the BiPap Pro 2 and the Bipap auto (classical tank) I can say that the BiPap Pro 2 was the loudest, most irritating (sound-wise) machine of the two. Is that just manufacturing differences... who knows. It sounds like your experience is the reverse.

As to difference is sound during inhale and exhale, yes I find a difference between the BiPAP auto and my back-up machine, Respironics Auto.

Do I understand you correctly that you used to have the Tank BiPap auto and now have the M series BiPAP auto? If so, is there some reason that you are now using the M series?
Cheers,

Ellie-
I don't notice the sound at all but then I"m running a hepa air purifier at the same time which generates a lot of "white noise" and drowns everything else out.

It's only my second night on the thing and I'm still getting used to the exhale relief. Sometimes it's too much and wakes me up--like I'm dropping off a cliff.
