CPAP was worthless.
I recently gave up on CPAP after several months of total frustration and lack of sleep. I am now sleeping much better than I have in a long time. I never did believe I had sleep apnea, if such a thing actually exists.

It does exist. And it is not pretty what it can do.
Come back when you are ready to make it work for you.

Glad you joined so you could tell us all about it.buffaloman wrote:I recently gave up on CPAP after several months of total frustration and lack of sleep. I am now sleeping much better than I have in a long time. I never did believe I had sleep apnea, if such a thing actually exists.
I had sleep apnea for about a quarter century before I ever heard of it. Now, over a decade later of 100% nightly CPAP use I'm still recovering from all the damage it did to me ... but it beats being dead IMO.
Good luck to ya ... and welcome to the forum!

Re: CPAP was worthless.
You can sincerely believe something and be sincerely wrong. Don't stake your health on it. What were the frustrations and what did you do to try and solve them. The great thing about the forum is that others may have things that worked for them which may also work for you. If you want help it's here.buffaloman wrote:I recently gave up on CPAP after several months of total frustration and lack of sleep. I am now sleeping much better than I have in a long time. Re: CPAP was worthless.
I have lost 60 pounds, and I no longer snore. Only then did someone come up with the sleep apnea idea. It would have made more sense while I was heavy and snoring.
The sleep test could not have been valid. I hardly slept that night because the test was so annoying, and I got up and worked on some things for several hours. The test said I was asleep far more than I actually was. It also said I was on my back a large percentage of the time, but I NEVER sleep on my back. Those things did not inspire confidence in the accuracy of the test. Of course, they decided I needed the CPAP based on this bogus test.
The machine proved to be a joke. It kept me awake for hours at a time. I only went to sleep twice while using it. I value my sleep more than to mess around with such a device.

I can't understand why you didn't take to XPAP, your attitude was perfect, just don't lose your paddle. Jimbuffaloman wrote:I have lost 60 pounds, and I no longer snore. Only then did someone come up with the sleep apnea idea. It would have made more sense while I was heavy and snoring.

I can't remember who uses this tagline, so please forgive me for stealing it without giving credit:

While I can understand his problem with accepting the test results, (my test was questionable to me as well), I suspect anyone that doesn't acknowledge sleep apnea exists is probably here for another reason besides looking for help, or to make himself feel better by getting this statement off his chest to a bunch of internet strangers.

Max its not you we're worried about, its the OTHER unsuspecting folks on the road that worry us. If you don't kill your self while driving, you will most assuredly kill the OTHERS.MaxINTJ wrote:Lucky for me I usually don't have passengers.Janknitz wrote:I can't remember who uses this tagline, so please forgive me for stealing it without giving credit:

Started cpap in 2010.. still at it with great results.
Re: CPAP was worthless.
I'm really sorry you are not having any luck with CPAP--your struggle is real--but I hope you are staying off the road entirely. It's not just yourself you may kill or maim if you cannot stay awake behind the wheel or have slow reflexes because of lack of restorative sleep--it's a menace to everyone else on or near the road. You cannot take other lives for granted. Nowadays there are many alternatives--public transportation, Uber, telecommuting, walking, bicycling, etc . . . No excuse is good enough.MaxINTJ wrote:Lucky for me I usually don't have passengers.Janknitz wrote:I can't remember who uses this tagline, so please forgive me for stealing it without giving credit:

Re: CPAP was worthless.
While his post come across as if he doesn't want help, I wasn't sure. I can understand some of his frustration. I was forced to get a sleep study for a DOT physical and I certainly had a chip on my shoulder. I thought I was sleeping just fine. But my work had a new requirement, and I had little choice. With no support from the DME, I might have been a failure statistic if I hadn't found this forum and answers to some of my problems.
