Thank you for this resource. Didn't realize there was an AWAKE chapter just across the state line but within 25 miles. Have utilized most of the facilities and docs. The convenience of the map is helpful. Thanks again.
Kathy

Cool. There's one a few blocks from where I live. I'll have to go check it out.

Thanks!

Very nice! Easy to use, even for me! Nothing in my area yet but I'll keep checking.

Thanks Johnny! You always come up with great ideas.

AWAKE meeting

Post by Guest27 » Thu Dec 07, 2006 7:41 pm

It's MHS, can't log in.

Useful feature; thanks, Johnny.

CPAPtalkers, if you attend an AWAKE meeting, I hope you will contribute your knowledge. If you find they need a meeting speaker and want to volunteer, I have a presentation design that you can use. PM me if you want details.

This should be helpful to those who suspect they have a sleep disorder and need help locating a doctor or sleep lab.

My doctor, a Pulmonary Consultant, is accredited in sleep disorders and is head physician of a sleep lab. The sleep lab is listed, but the doctor is not. How were the names of doctors and sleep labs accumulated for this listing?

I tried it for my area and got a few hits. If I knew then what I know now, this would have been a great tool in selecting the Sleep Disorder phy. and accredited lab. I went to an ENT and to an unaccredited lab. This will be a good source for the future.

Hey Johnny,

This would be a great thread to pin to the top of the Message Forum so it would be easy to find. I thank you for this very useful tool.

It would be great for Newbies as well as old pros.
I am glad you thought of it.

I agree with Karen. I have started and am the coordinator of the Southern Nevada A.W.A.K.E. group. I have received a number of calls from people who found our info on the ASAA site. I couldn't believe how many people found us this way. Make this post a sticky of some kind that will always stay at top of page. Great job

How many of these AWAKE groups really exist. I work for 3 hospitals and I can't find out if the lsited groups at those 3 really function. When first diagnosed I called every group. Valley Hospital Ridgeewood NJ had one listed but the number was disconnected. I reached the sleep center and they said they don't think the support group meets anymore.
I called teh AWAKE group at Holy Name Hospital, Teaneck NJ, they did call me back to say no meetings till September, but we'll keep you posted. In Septemeber I called again and they said we couldn't find a speaker or a topic so we concelled the meeting, but if you have an idea for a topic and a speaker we will arrange a meeting in November. I haven't heard.
At Hackensack, when I told the very kind-hearted Stephanie in the sleep lab about all this, she said: I had no idea you wanted to come to our support group, I will put you on our list and we would love to have come. I am still waiting. I suspect these groups have quietly gone out of business but are still listed to look impressive and show how much these sleep labs and docs truly care about the wellbeing oif their patients. They really do! If we get fired for ill-health we would become medicaid patients and they would get much less. They do care, I promise you.
