Newbie needs help installing filters on Remstar classic auto

Post by sleepergal » Tue Dec 05, 2006 11:26 pm

Hi,

I've got a pollen filter and an ultra fine filter that goes on the Remstar auto classic. I can't seem to find instructions on which filter goes in first (or do you only use one?). Also, I don't know whether the shiny side of the ultra fine filter faces toward the machine or toward the outside. Can anyone help me out with how to do this?

Thanks in advance for the help.

I always put the plastic grate side on the fine filter in first against the machine, my thought was that plastic mesh/grate holds the filter away from the machine grill for better airflow.

So in this order is what I do:

1. Fine filter, plastic mesh towards machine (tab can go up/down, don't matter).
2. Charcoal FOAM filter.
3. Noise Silencer cap.

Easy way to remember order to install filters. It is very logical.

Room air has many particulates large and small floating around in it.

The gross filter (black foam) will only take out the biggest as it is very porus. You can see that just by looking at it.

The (white) fine filter will take out the smaller stuff. If you were to put this first (backwards order by mistake), you would clog it up with the big stuff, and the black filter would be useless as no big stuff could get through the fine filter to the black filter. So the finer filter further away from the room air.

Now the fine filter has two sides. The fuzzy side and the shiny side.

The fuzzy side catches the particles, the shiny side is where the cleaned air exits to the machine. Makes sense. So fuzzy side towards room air shiny side towards machine.

Nothing breaking off the fuzzy side and flying into your airway this way.

Also as mentioned the white fine filter has a tab and when you grab that both filters come out easily.

Believe it or not I had to correct my DME as he sat there installing the filters in reverse order.

Thank you Snoregirl very much for the detailed explanation. I just got my 90 day supply and I thought I'd start using the Ultra Fine filters and had on idea which side faced towards the machine...
