I FEEL GOOD! Newbie Can't Believe it!

Post by keverino » Fri Nov 10, 2006 12:45 pm

Just completed my fourth night on CPAP and I haven't felt this good in years! Right from the first day (Tuesday) morning I felt like Superman! I woke up rested and alert, I've been in a great mood ever since. It's like I'm a NEW MAN at 48!

If wasn't in the best mood I can ever remember being in, I'd probably be getting resentful for how long I was in a fog. I didn't even realize how tired and cranky I'd gotten over the past few years. Luckily my wife read about apnea, realized I had it (AHI is 59.9), and made me go to the doc.

Rested Gal and others were super helpful in replying to my questions on Monday and I took their advice on machines, DMEs, buying online, etc.

This forum ROCKS! You guys made my experience fantastic right from the beginning.

I'm realizing now that my dad who died over 20 years ago from congestive heart failure probably had apnea and it surely contributed to his many health problems. I'm so grateful for all this.

MANY THANKS TO THIS GREAT FORUM. I will stay on and try to contribute as a way of trying to pay back.

Wonderful post, keverino! So glad you're seeing such good results right away. Fortunately, it was that way for me, too.

Hey there:

I was also one of the lucky ones - felt way better right from the start, and really didn't have any major equipment problems. I've been on the xpap for over 6 months now, and wouldn't dream (ha ha) of sleeping without it. I do think there is a honeymoon period, which gradually fades to an overall feeling of "gee I feel a heck of a lot better than I used to!"
It's great to hear you're doing so well, best wishes for a successful hosehead journey!

Congratulations! Makes it all worth it, doesn't it folks?

Our family suspects that our great grandfather passed away in much the same fashion. It is amazing how many people right now are suffering from sleep apnea, which is literally killing them slowly, and are untreated.

My dad died in my arms 30-minutes after getting up from a nap one Saturday, I KNOW he had OSA, the autopsy indicated he died from sudden heart failure at age 51. Back then CPR was rarely known about, Paramedics were only 2.5 blocks away and were working on him within 5-minutes of his collapse. I was 16yrs old at the time was talking with him working on some fishing gear, he was sitting on the ground, turned around and he's laying down turning blue, I pound on his chest try mouth to mouth until he gives his last breath. He wasn't obese, he was a big man, 6' 4" and 240lbs. My mom who's now 86 used to say he would stop breathing in his sleep all the time.

After a stroke at age 45 and before my OSA diagnosis, I thought I was headed down the same path, when I put my family history down during the stroke diagnosis they sent me through every cardiac test available including an arterial angiography. I used to tell my GP for years every time I go to fall asleep I get jolted back awake and my heart would be beating rapidly, he didn't have a clue. I only got diagnosed with OSA after demanding a Sleep Study where it came back severe at 72hr with O2 levels dropping to mid 60%.

I have 4 older brothers, everyone has had a PSG after my experience.

recovery stages

Hi, Keverino. If the honeymoon stage doesn't last, click on the light bulb/our collective wisdom, expand all, and see the article on Recovery Stages. Hope it does last for you, but even if the Superman stage doesn't last, the good effects of CPAP will last.
