Tramadol and Gabapentin
Tramadol and Gabapentin
My AHI has mostly been under 1 for the first 8 months. Now I have a herniated disc and I've been using Tramadol and Gabapentin for the pain.
I notice that my AHI has hopped up over 3. Would that be the drugs, or the pain, or just coincidence?
Thanks!

Re: Tramadol and Gabapentin
My honey had his herniated disc surgically repaired as soon as they could possibly get it scheduled.
Do not delay the repair. It will only get worse.

Re: Tramadol and Gabapentin
Tramadol can slow or stop your breathing, especially when you start using this medicine or whenever your dose is changed. https://www.drugs.com/tramadol.html

Ok I stand corrected. And when combined with other meds sure it could be a problem for some no doubt.Okie bipap wrote:Tramadol can slow or stop your breathing, especially when you start using this medicine or whenever your dose is changed.
Is OP also taking other meds?
Thanks Okie that is what is nice about posting in an open forum - if you make a mistake hopefully someone will find it and correct it.
Good Job.

Re: Tramadol and Gabapentin
Pain alone can make your AHI jump. As for medications, it's a YMMV thing. It may not affect my AHI, but could affect yours. Generally, any med that reduces pain can increase your events (and this includes aspirin for some people). Way more common in opiates and muscle relaxants, of course.

thanks for the replies.
it occurs to me that i'm also spending quite a bit of time awake with the machine on, because i can't go to sleep till the pain dies down.
isn't there something about false events recorded while you're awake?

I also take Tramadol and my AHI is always <1 which is why I mistakenly thought that isn't it esp. since I tend to be overly sensitive to things.Okie bipap wrote:My wife used to take tramadol.
This explains it well...

Re: Tramadol and Gabapentin
These would be recorded as CAs....They would be clear airway events. You stopped breathing for 10+ seconds, but your airway was clear. This can happen when you are restless in bed, turning over, having pain, etc. They are part of your AHI but you can ignore them.joem18b wrote:thanks for the replies.
