Custom made mask

Post by MeToo » Thu Mar 30, 2017 1:00 pm

A significant issue with CPAP comfort and compliance relates to mask fits and sealing, and I have wondered why there's not a company that is successfully customizing. Apparently Metamason is bringing a custom mask to market soon.

There's a co. in Australia that's done 'custom' for years, but the price is quite high (never mind the geography).

I wonder what the new ones will be like and what they'll cost... and how 'custom' the FF mask frames will be? That's always been my issue - the fit of the frame sides, which I believe have made some permanent ruts in my face.

The very first CPAP masks were custom-fit, as they were not yet manufacturing such a thing!

Custom would be nice and I don't think all that more costly especially if you can skip over all the trial and error of finding a mask that fits. I think we will see more and more custom fitting options as the market and demand grows.

I think the ticket price was something in the neighborhood of a grand and a half.

Weird, I see an article from just a couple of months ago:
http://www.prweb.com/releases/2017/11/prweb14905619.htm
LOS ANGELES (PRWEB) November 10, 2017
Metamason today is delighted to announce it has been named a CES 2018 Innovation Awards Honoree for its Miia nasal CPAP mask.
However, the MetaMason website is now down.

I did see this company via google:
http://inspiratemedical.com/
Enjoy a leak-free, painless CPAP experience.
Inspirate Medical makes custom-fit, 3D-printed CPAP mask that fits you exactly – and doesn’t leak.

Anyone tried it?

There may well be, but it is not at this link - with it you get
Website Expired

There also may be a bigger stumbling block here in the US: The FDA and the approval process for medical devices. Since the mask is a prescription only device, can anyone think of a way it no longer must pass FDA approval or scrutiny simply because it is custom made for you? If I am correct, even drugs that are sold as compounded must be prescribed.

Vaporware does tend to leak. Must be high class, if they can't pay the hosting bills. Jim

With this video press release I hear an Australian manufacturer telling us what a US insurance company will cover - a $1400 CPAP mask? I doubt it. Even if it lasts 3 years as stated, how does that compare with standard insurance reimbursement under the existing replacement schedule? Who covers the travel expenses? Does the prosthetic mold maker travel to you or must you go to them? I heard nothing from the user telling us what his insurance actually did.
