Airfit F20

Post by Cokomo » Sat Nov 26, 2016 10:36 am

The Airfit F20 for her Med just arrived and it is incredibly comfortable. This is for my wife who wears an Airfit F10 for her medium now. I have always worn a large ffm and use the Airfit F 10 large now. The F20 is too big for her but is just right for me. It is one size larger than the F10. I can't wait to try it tonight . Very excited .

Yes, I meant "mouth". But, since Avi has me on his Foe List (thank goodness), it doesn't matter.

Who knows when and why a full face mask causes puffed cheeks and then you look like a Chipmunk?

The puffed chipmunk cheeks are not caused by a certain type of mask but by your tongue dropping down and allowing air to go into your mouth while your lips are closed. Most of us learn to control this after a while and keep the air moving in the right direction.

Oky, when you use a full face mask then the air from the CPAP machine can go to either your nose or mouth, no? You can keep them both open and the air will go in and out from both at all time.

Yes and when your lips are open chipmunk cheeks shouldn't be a problem.

Chipmunk face is purely heredity.
If both parents were chipmunks, you are stuck with the face, paws, tail; the whole ball of wax, er, fur.

OkyDoky,

a comment,

The issue is switching from a nasal mask to a full face mask. While using a nasal mask you want to keep the mouth closed either by using the tongue technique or by using a chinstrap. In such a case there is no air pressure build up in the mouth and consequently no cheeks puffiness. However when you switch to a full face mask then the mouth get pressurized but you are not used to it. So the pressure in the mouth inflates the cheeks. You can overcome this Chipmunk appearance by developing facial muscles to tighten up the cheeks. Or tightening the mask straps to do it for you, and possibly leave marks. This effect is common to all face masks when the pressure in the mouth is elevated, regardless of the mask.
