Respironics AutoSV Advanced- can it be silenced?

Post by Omne » Tue Sep 20, 2016 8:40 pm

Does anyone know if the startup, shutoff and menu selection tones for the AutoSV can be silenced? The alarm beeps are off but the menu sounds are pretty loud. I'd like to get them off so they don't disturb my wife when I come to bed after she's asleep.

a few minutes and a T15 long shank driver and you too can have silence.

Break off a Q tip and stick it in the volume/sound hole and it will muffle the beeps a lot.
I can't remember exactly where that hole is...down around or below the filter I think. I no longer have my 960 to be able to tell you exactly where it is but I think a long time ago someone posted a picture. It's somewhere on the back though. I will see if I can find the post with the picture. If I do I will post it back here.

Otherwise wait for a 960 user to come along and they can tell you for sure.
The Qtip thing worked well and didn't involve tearing into the machine and it is easy to remove if you ever want to remove it.

It may not be down near the filter

There is no silent mode option on the 960 machines...we had to use the Qtips to muffle the beeps.

if you want 'em muffled, do that, if you want 'em off, pop the top cover (pull off the knob and two t15 screws), unplug the wire on the right side of the board, and while you're in there, reseat all the other plugs, before the humidifier connection overheats and burns.

BB did it, and reports great peaceful sleeping (last I heard )

I couldn't hear the beeps with the QTip stuck in the hole. Worth trying.

sure... and if it's not enough, then there's an almost as easy option.

options are good to have

Pugsy and palerider mentioned the Q-tip trick for silencing the beeps early in this thread. Here's two replies plus a how-to picture I long ago contributed on the topic... this trick works great but be sure follow the directions exactly (on the plus side, you don't have to open the case, hurray!).

I got a few questions PM'd to me regarding the technique directly above, so here's some elaboration:

AND YET MORE DETAIL: The Q-tip goes in all the way till it contacts the transducer disk (beeper) on the motherboard. I can't remember how far it goes in but I'd guess 3/8 to 1/2 inch, perhaps a little more, you'll know when the Q-tip bottoms out. It needs to really press on the speaker disk to dampen the sound - the toothpick is ONLY there to wedge in the Q-tip to the desired tension (a quarter inch of toothpick is all that's needed). IOW, The short piece of toothpick is there just to jam the Q-tip shaft against the edge of the hole, NOT TO CONTACT THE BEEPER.

You really need to press in the Q-tip firmly and then wedge it in place with a short piece of toothpick - doing so, you should be able to cut the sound down to a faint beep (you can't completely eliminate the beeps as far as I know). It does take some force to do this but obviously don't go crazy and ruin the beeper. It's sort of a process of trial and error, therefore push in the Q-tip and wedge it and test the result, for more dampening of the beeper push the Q-tip in a little harder and wedge it in place with the toothpick, etc etc. Hope that helps. Tip: Leave both the Qtip and toothpick shafts long when you're doing the testing then cut them off later with a pair of wire cutters when you get the volume reduction you need. You'll need to leave a little bit sticking up so you can pull the Q-tip out if you need to later... a quarter inch is plenty. Somebody mentioned using glue on the Q-tip but I don't recommend that because you'll be locked in to having the Q-tip in there permanently. A little silicon sealant on the exposed part of the Q-tip might work okay because you could use a razor knife to free it up later - I'll leave it up to you guys to test that out.

I do have a technique for eliminating the sound/beeps with a ResMed machine but it's fairly challenging, so if you don't know your way around electronics it can mess up your machine.

I like my ResMed AirFit F10 FFM - reasonably low leaks for my ASV therapy. I'm currently using a PR S1 AutoSV 960P Advanced. I also keep a ResMed S9 Adapt as backup. I use a heated Hibernite hose. Still rockin' with Win 7 by using GWX to stop Win 10.
