flavored water CPAP

Hello,
I'm new to this forum and write because I did not find anything about the subject on Google.

I have been using CPAP for a year and have wondered if it is possible to flavor the water.
The reason is that I always wake up with dry mouth and a bad taste.

Have any of you tried?

Of course, it's possible. However, it's not recommended and could void your warranty.

Never EVER put anything in the water itself - otherwise what's the point of using distilled? If you want a nice smell, put something on a cotton ball near the air intake only.

You probably have a dry mouth from mouth breathing when asleep, and you're probably losing Cpap air that way when it should go down your airway instead. Are you only using a nasal mask and not a full face one that would allow your mouth to open but not lose all the Cpap air? I also think the bad taste is from your own mouth as a result.

The bad taste is from the bacteria in your mouth that flourish in a dry mouth and rot your teeth.

If you are not using a full face mask - get one ASAP. If you are using a Full Face Mask use a chin strap, nasal rinse before bed and get some biotene or Oragel formulations for dry mouth.

A bad idea... only distilled water (or purified/filtered water if no other choice).

A small dab of the Orajel dry mouth gel will help knock back bacteria in your mouth and keep it tasting minty.

I happen to disagree with the oil infused cotton ball near the intake method as that will subject the blower internals to scented oil molecules that will most likely cling tenaciously to all the associated parts and surfaces. (in addition to all the other "downstream" parts) Hoses and water tanks/reservoirs are easily (and cheaply) replaced if the fragrance gets out of hand and becomes oppressive. One member posted that he'd really contaminated his blower unit with that crap and was desperate to undo it. Before someone comes up and protests wildly about the dangers of one method versus the other..... they're both unwise IMO. However... one method will spare the expensive pap part from contamination, the other will not. All Smells Are Particulate. Hey ! Pull my finger !

And everything smells--or seems to.
Sweaty socks, the old dog, the spearmint growing below my window.
Molecules from all these ambient smells find their way into the blower, and some stay.
I add a whisper of something pleasant, (on a q-tip near the intake) so I can sleep.
Pull MY finger! I guarantee you will open a window!

Hoses and water tanks, perhaps, but lungs, not so much. You don't need aerosolized particulates in your airway.

NEVER put anything in your tank but distilled water (or the occasional use of non-distilled water when traveling if you have no other options).

Agree with the advice about not putting anything in the water.

On a different note, a dry mouth does not necessarily indicate someone needs a full face mask. I discovered through personal experience that my mouth is alot drier from using the Simplus vs. the Sleep Weaver Elan Mask.

Anyway, if someone has a dry mouth and is using a nasal/nasal pillow mask, check the leak data first before assuming any mouth breathing is taking place. The experts on this forum can help you evaluate whether it is excessive or not and what the next actions should be.

Of course, if you want to switch to a full face mask for any reason, go ahead and do it. But a dry mouth is not necessarily a reason to do so.

FWIW, if you scent your room air in general...it'll obviously flow through your machine too. Floating something natural, like gardenia or rose petals in your reservoir shouldn't necessarily put you into lipoid pneumonia and summon the paramedics with an oxygen tent. Maybe some crushed up Maraschino cherries would be fun too !
