Auto turn off

Post by perrine 3s » Sun Sep 11, 2016 3:39 pm

I have a Resmed S9. I have just set the SmartStart, which I love. But I an unable to find a setting for it to turn off automatically when I take off the headgear. Is there such an option? If so where is it located and how do I get there to activate it?

I took off the headgear to see if it would turn off after awhile. It ran for a couple of minutes until I manually had to turn it off.

Exactly which S9 model?
What pressure are you using?
Which mask are you using?

SmartStart controls both auto on and auto off but with some machines and some pressures and some masks...the auto off thing won't work so great.

mine didn't work when I had the mask setting at 'full face' and I was trying out a pillow mask. those little holes didn't let enough air out for the machine to go "oh! that's not a big leak, that's mask off, time to shut down"

I tested my auto shutoff, and it takes so long it annoys the bullfrog, so I just hit the off switch.
What the hey; I'm getting up anyway!

Mine doesn't work with the P10 and I have the right mask choice.

I suspect that in the OP's case here that the pressure is relatively low (I think the manual says that pressure needs to be 7 or more when nasal pillows are being used).
I doubt that the machine is ASV like mine but since it wouldn't be impossible I mentioned machine model since I know that my S9 with the nasal pillows won't turn off no matter what pressure I use and I know for sure that I have the correct mask choice made.
Now if I take the mask off the long hose it works fine. It's the P10 that is screwing up the auto off. Does the same thing on my PR S1 machine and it's auto off.

I've never understood the need for Auto Off/On, except maybe for the disabled. What could be easier or more sure than just pressing a button?

sometimes (like here) the button isn't readily reachable from the bed.

I could reach it, if I'm facing the right way, and I twist my arm up just right.

sometimes the best place for the machine isn't where it's easy to reach from the bed, maybe someone else has it near the floor to prevent rainout... etc.

none, EPR is a feature on many machines, H5i is the humidifer, and IPX1 is an international standard for intrusion protection for water and things (like fingers).

look on the bac of the part where the power hooks up, and tell us what the REF number is, .... or look above the power button.

If your pressure is below 7 when you remove the nasal pillow mask it probably just doesn't know that the mask has been removed.
This is covered in the the user manual

Page 4 http://www.resmed.com/uk/dam/documents/ ... r1_eng.pdf
SmartStart/Stop is enabled but the device does not stop automatically when you remove your
mask

Incompatible mask system being used.

The patient is using a nasal pillows
mask with a set pressure less than
7cm.

I do use the auto-on figuring that it saves wear and tear on the on/off switch. But in the morning, I always push the button because I don't want my data to have extraneous large leaks recorded. Or, is it smart enough to delete the last large leak data if it ends with an auto-off? If so, I would be impressed!

you're surprised it can say "oh, look, mask off" and not record that as a leak?

give it a try.
