first post, every help is appreciated

Post by bluegene » Fri Sep 09, 2016 11:57 pm

Hi, i was recently diagnosed with OSA about 4 months ago and my insurance doesn't cover the cpap machine so i bought one and i'm doing the titration myself. i'm using sleepyhead to track my progress. the problem i have is i have good AHI numbers and i don't feel energetic after sleep. i feel that there is more to accomplish like first time when i used the cpap machine i was waking up feels very good but now even though my number are good i don't feel energetic anymore. i have the screenshot of my last 3 days on cpap if anyone can help with it.

I'd probably raise the minepap to 11 and raise the maxipap you're still having a lot of snoring issues, meaning your airway isn't as open as it should be.

And if most of the snoring is because you sleep on your back, try to not do that as it can make a big difference... maybe put pllows behind you, or wear a fanny pack to stay on your side.

I agree with PR about needing more minimum EPAP...but I am more conservative in how much more...I would just try 1 cm more first and see how the snores respond then maybe try another 1 cm if they don't reduce enough. Snores are usually fairly easily to kill with just a wee bit more pressure.
Your choice though.

Do you normally get 7 hours or so of sleep? Do you feel the need to take a nap in the afternoon?
Do you wake often during those hours? If so, any idea why?
Do you take any medications of any kind (even OTC)? If so, what?

Is fatigue your primary complaint? When you say you don't feel energetic anymore ...is it worse since starting therapy?

You are having Flow limitations as shown on the pie chart but there's none shown in the events graph.
I am scratching my head over that one...FLs should show up on the Events graph right below H...which is hyponea.
And I would expect to see them with the snores you are showing.
I don't know if that is a SleepyHead bug or what's going on there.
Is your computer a Windows PC? Maybe we need to try Encore Pro and see if it shows the FLs.

thanks for your input i tried your recommended settings last night and didn't work with me. my AHI actually increased here is the snap shot with the new settings. also when i woke up i felt like i'm bloated and severe headache; i think there was so much pressure that it went to my stomach instead of my lungs.

i 'll try increase by one pressure today. i think 2 was too much for me

yes usually i sleep form 6-7 hours. no naps only if i slep like 4 hours or so i sleep for 2 hours nap
Do you wake often during those hours? If so, any idea why?
no waking, maybe once go to rest room and then back again
Do you take any medications of any kind (even OTC)?
If so, what? i take wellbutrin xl in the morning
Is fatigue your primary complaint? When you say you don't feel energetic anymore ...is it worse since starting therapy?
fatigue with foggy brain actually. if i take something for the headache usually my headache goes away. when i started the therapy i felt great and the dreams came back again but nowadays not that much energy.

I use Mac. Maybe we need to try Encore Pro and see if it shows the FLs.

Encore Pro is Windows only software so it won't work on your Mac unless you have some sort of Windows on it.

Research the side effects for Welbutrin. It's been known to mess with sleep architecture and cause fatigue.
Might explain part of your symptoms.

The snores and FLs point to not quite optimal therapy. Close but there's more snores than I would want to see and we know there are some FLs but don't know how many....and they also point to sub optimal therapy.
Whether either or both are responsible for not feeling as good as you used to feel...don't know but it's possible.

I'm guessing you have them turned off in the flags checker on the bottom left of the chart window?

much more informative (at least to me) than the list of events with times, that you have to try and guesstimate where the ticks should be
