Term "Auto CPAP" ?

Post by krl » Fri Sep 09, 2016 4:37 pm

Hi - just had a follow up and I was able to finally view my original split-night polysomnography report. They make a recommendation and state..."patient may hence benefit from Auto CPAP with lower pressures.

I have the AirSense 10 Elite CPAP w/humidAir humidifier....isn't that considered an "Auto CPAP" machine? after reading many descriptions I think that's the case as it states "AutoRamp" below - I must assume this nomenclature just missed my newbie ears. I haven't slept in quite a while which also may account for my perceived "basic" question. But the Dr who followed up w/me didn't seem to know her CPAP terminology...probably that's the case. thanks for any help.

• Built-in HumidAir™ Heated Humidifier for easier use
• Optional ClimateLineAir™ heated tubing [SKU #37296] for less rainout
• AutoRamp™ for easier solution for gradual pressure increase
• EPR™ and Easy-Breathe motor for peaceful comfort
• Take along for easier travel
• Advanced Event Detection for more in-depth patient insight for better health
• My Options Menu and LCD Display with Light Sensor for better user customization
• AirView™ for remote access "

AutoRamp has nothing to do with Auto CPAP. All it does is suspend ramp when it thinks you are asleep and in your case it goes straight to fixed pressure.

Auto CPAP means the pressure will auto adjust all night as needed. Meaning you can use lower pressures for the parts of the night when lower gets the job done and the machine will auto adjust upwards (or downwards) as it senses the need.

An example might be that lower pressures do well when in non REM sleep but in REM sleep a person might need a lot more pressure. Which would you rather do....use lower for most of the night and higher for the time in REM or use higher all night (that's all your Elite will do).

I would drop in on the DME. ASAP, show them your test recommendations, and demand the RIGHT MACHINE.

As was mentioned prior...The Elite is a fixed pressure machine...you set it to a specific pressure and it stays there whether it is helping or not. The Autoset has a minimum and maximum pressure setting and the machine will determine what is necessary throughout the night to prevent most events....Exchange the Elite for the Autoset.

From Google:

"Durable Medical Equipment (DME) is any equipment that provides therapeutic benefits to a patient in need because of certain medical conditions and/or illnesses. Durable Medical Equipment (DME) consists of items which: • are primarily and customarily used to serve a medical purpose;"

Basically, companies that provide medical hardware for patients that insurance should pay for to some degree depending on your insurance. If you are like me, I have to pay 100% of everything CPAP related so an official "DME" means nothing to me. I just buy online from the least expensive provider.

DME= the creeps that sold you the WRONG machine.
Now it's up to you to correct that "error".
Storm in Monday morning, and give them hell.

Well, where did you come up with the "Elite" designation in your first post?

If you don't already have a copy of the clinical guide, you can download one with this link.

https://sleep.tnet.com/home/files/resme ... -guide.pdf

Then, go through the menus and write down ALL of the existing settings for reference purposes.
You'll also be able to see what the capabilities really are once you get in there.

on my manual/booklet - "AirSense 10 / Autoset / Autsoset for her / Elite / CPAP" on the cover - why it says "for her" is a bit odd

it's a combined manual for the four different types of Airsense 10 machines.

yours says autoset, what color is it?

My Airsense 10 Autoset for Her is eggshell with a beige floral graphic.
It has a couple extra features, but the black machine should be fine for most folks.
