Doctor changed my setting from auto to cpap
Doctor changed my setting from auto to cpap
I went today complaining about waking up every hour or two. The doc decided to try me on cpap mode at 8 cm. I hate it, can I change it back somehow? The doctor is not in tomorrow and would have to go all weekend like this. I feel like I can't exhale. I would like to put it back to where it was. Thanks.

Go here and look up your machine...instructions on how to get to the clinical setup menu are available.
While there you should probably request the provider manual for whatever machine you have.
http://www.apneaboard.com/adjust-cpap-p ... tup-manual
Loads of good information in that manual that isn't in the other manual.
When you have time please add your equipment to your profile like I have mine.
If I knew which machine you used I could give you exact directions instead of having to tell you to look it up.

Are you monitoring your therapy with software?Jbird wrote:I went today complaining about waking up every hour or two. The doc decided to try me on cpap mode at 8 cm. If you were, you'd be able to see why you were waking up every hour or two.
Might just have something to do with the sleep stage cycles which run about 90 - 120 minutes.
What were your previous settings? ALL of them.
If you don't know the answers to your therapy issues, you may be be going to worse settings than your doctor's prescribed settings.

I'm having trouble with the software. It locks up. I will spend some time in the next week or two figuring it out but it's a challenge for me. I have a system one. Been diagnosed with severe OSA last april. I'm glad I found this website, because now I don't feel so alone. I am just going to put the settings back to auto and set minimum at 7, which was 5 before I went in today. But the CPAP makes me feel like I'm gonna choke the way the doctor put it.

do you have any kind of lung or breathing problems? any other health problems? you should be able to exhale at 8cm without any major troubles.Jbird wrote: I feel like I can't exhale.
Re: Doctor changed my setting from auto to cpap
I don't have any major health issues except severe OSA. I do find myself holding my breath during the day and feeling like I can't get enough breath in. I had a CT scan done and my upper airway is very small due to childhood orthodontics and head gear. I'm not overweight either and I'm 57 years old. BP is usually high unless I take my garlic, which that's how I control that.
I put it back on auto and put it on 7 minimum and did much better last night.

Glad you're doing better on that setting.Jbird wrote:I don't have any major health issues except severe OSA. Fixed pressure doesn't work well for me either.
Once you get to clinical manual for your PR System One, look up Aflex/Cflex, if you're not familiar with it.
Your sleep clinic or DME may have turned it off, but it's a separate feature that provides pressure relief for breathing out.
It decreases your cpap pressure setting while exhaling, by how much depends on which relief setting you choose; 1,2, or 3.
A friend of mine who has sleep apnea also has breathing issues during the day.
He's been using an inhaler for years. His pulmonologist prescribed a bi-pap machine.

Re: Doctor changed my setting from auto to cpap
That's interesting you had the CT scan that revealed a very small airway. Most likely I have the same problem from extensive orthodontic work (headgear too) that was done in the early 1970's. I've come across others on here who mention the same thing. The sleep clinic told me I have sleep apnea caused by tongue obstruction. There's another sleep breathing disorder called UARS that can result from orthodontic treatment. If you're interested, look up Dr. Steven Park, MD. He's an ENT doctor who wrote a book called; "Sleep Interrupted". After reading on his website, I saw an ENT doctor who told me there's crowding at the back of my mouth. He gave me a brochure for an oral appliance called "SomnoGuard AP". He told me it's $500 and insurance will pay some of the cost if cpap fails.Jbird wrote:I don't have any major health issues except severe OSA. Re: Doctor changed my setting from auto to cpap
From my experience, I don't have any lung or breathing problems, apart from SDB. I recall having a difficulty exhaling at 8-10cm straight in my sleep due EPR=0. Though now I am at 13/8. I guess the author of the thread is not accustomed to it, but the fact of his hating the therapy is not a good sign. He should be able to revert the changes and repeat optimization but less drasticallyGuest wrote:Jbird wrote:The doc decided to try me on cpap mode at 8 cm.do you have any kind of lung or breathing problems? any other health problems? you should be able to exhale at 8cm without any major troubles.Jbird wrote: I feel like I can't exhale.
