different kind of chin strap

Post by grybeard77 » Tue Sep 06, 2016 5:21 pm

Earlier today I read on some one's post about a different kind of strap you can buy in lots of places. You had to cut out a hole for your ears but it keeps your lower lip pulled up. It was called a Souci or some thing like that. I got called away before I wrote it down to check it out and now I cannot find it. Any body know what I/m looking for???? Thanks in advance.

it's a headband/sweatband... could be any style that fits, and presses gently on your lips.

folks, these chin straps are a terrible idea
the whole reason people snore and/or have apnea is that when they fall asleep, their jaw muscles relax, and the lower jaw settles into the airway, constricting it. If you apply a chin strap in this manner, you are actually making things worse for your self. Your lower jaw should "stick out", not forced back into the airway.

The dentist is absolutely correct about the limitations of chin straps.
TMJ, for example.
Dental appliances have their own limitations, as many here will attest.

Thanks for this
yes, sure seems with all this progress made over the years we still have to constantly measure and check if something is working or not. And then there is a compliance issues, both with cpaps or with oral appliances. Before palerider takes my head off, do you mind expressing what it was that you found to be a limiting factor for you?

palerider objects to your pushing your 'dental appliances' as an alternative to cpap, on a cpap help forum, not for actually contributing something useful.

thanks again for pointing out that this is cpap sponsored forum for cpap help. as mentioned to you before, I had no idea.
I do still think that a chin strap is a horrible idea. i believe that is contributing something useful. I work on the upper and lower jaws all day and it is imperative that i keep the airway open
wearing a chin strap closes the airway.
I have 0 issues with cpaps. as stated before, they are great and they are first in line when treating apnea.

Some forum members (((a few))) have used appliances, to mixed results.
I have great success with cpap (as you state cpap is "first in line for treating apnea");
and have not had occasion to try anything else.
Therefore, I do not feel I qualify to openly condemn appliances, per se.
My personal feelings are somewhat less equivocal, your advertising here in particular.

You're joking, right? What did you think a forum called Cpaptalk would be about - or were you being sarcastic?

You look as slick as you sound and it's so out of place here where most of us are just regular people, not pushing an agenda with dollar signs in front of it.

Maybe someone on Craig's List would be interested in your devices.

was not being sarcastic at all.
I thought it would be about people needing help with apnea and cpap. Clearly from the number of topics I have read in the last 24 hours, there are many that do.
don't wear a chin straps folks! who came up with that solution?

Thanks again for that
so what it is that you folks feel like I am trying to sell to you in Nebraska? Canada? I don't own or make appliances for people and ship it to them
It is a very detailed and involved. you can't buy a solution from a shelf and have it be the remedy.
On, the flip side, i've learned a ton here already. I had no idea people were developing creases in their skulls, or using anything to retrude their jaws that would constrict their airway even more.
