i cant sleep

Post by mama smalls » Fri Sep 02, 2016 11:08 pm

My husband got his soap machine this week. The first 2 nights were rough for us sleeping but the last few nights he is sleeping and I am not. While the machine itself is quiet I am tempted to pull the mask away from his face and let it snap him. Wow is the breathing loud. Plus when he does have an episode it is causing him to cough. Please tell me I am not alone in this. What can I do? Tyvm

"Soap" machine? I suppose you mean CPAP ('see pap') which stands for Continuous Positive Airway Pressure , nothing to do with soap!

We need to know exactly which specific mask he's using.

The symptoms are explained: breathing soap in the middle of the night is enough to make anyone cough .....

Oh for gd's sake! Do you really want to add confusion there? Not everyone has your knowledge and the least we can do is try to help them start off right.

Once you give us more specifics you can get some targeted answers. In general, I suggest making sure his therapy is optimized so as to minimize the number of events that wake him (and you). Also, does he sleep on his back? If so, side sleeping might help minimize the number of events that slip through too. Someone who has used mask liners can say if they minimize noise at all. Some masks are known to be noisier than others. Maybe one that diffuses expelled air differently is an option. I'm sure those who have used his specific mask will weigh in on that. Lastly, are you using anything for a sound buffer, like a fan or low music?

Mask fit and air leaks are a huge issue when starting out, the sound of leaking air is often more annoying to a partner than the sound of the machine itself.
If you can provide some more details such as the machine make and model and the mask name people will be able to help further.
The biggest chip in this game is to have a fully compatible data machine. They have the removable SD data card. There is software to help read the data on that card and track therapy on your computer.

Please don't pull his mask off unless you have a good life insurance policy

Can you tell if the noise you hear is air leaking from around the mask? If so, you might look into the Padacheek liners - they help the seal.

it's more correct to say that they tame the leaks, because if you put cloth between silicone and skin, you're going to have more leak than a good seal, but instead of big loud noisy leaks, they'll be much quieter and probably smaller leaks, because they're muffled by the cloth, plus, to me, it feels better than the silicone.

Like LSAT said above only I like Mack's silicone type which are very comfortable and block out a lot of sound.

I like my ResMed AirFit F10 FFM - reasonably low leaks for my ASV therapy. I'm currently using a PR S1 AutoSV 960P Advanced. I also keep a ResMed S9 Adapt as backup. I use a heated Hibernite hose. Still rockin' with Win 7 by using GWX to stop Win 10.

What do you mean the sound of him breathing is loud? Do you feel/hear the sound of air venting out of the mask?
