Newly diagnosed - looking for advice

Post by fluffydodo » Fri Sep 02, 2016 1:47 am

Hi all. I've recently been diagnosed with OSA at 25 years old with an AHI of 65. I had a CPAP trial night with the sleep study guys and have been given a script but it's very vague so I've been reading around to choose a suitable machine, however, I haven't been able to do so and was hoping you guys could advise.

Script states CPAP recomendation: Fixed pressure 5cnH20, preferably with a humidifier.

Are particular brands better and/or are there brands that should be avoided?

I thank you in advance for finding the time to read my post and offer assistance!

Your pressure is very low, and might be too low for comfort. If you feel like you are starved for air, you will want to increase the pressure even if you don't need more for therapy.

As for the machine, the most important part is data. There are a couple machines that do not have full data. The equipment provider (DME) may lie and say that the machine has data when all it has is hours of use. If you don't feel better or have problems, you will want to look at the data and make adjustments.

There are some new machines, so I am not sure which ones to avoid. Resmed has the Airsense 10, most models have data. The lowest cpap does not. The autoset and autoset for her are bothgood. The S9 is a little older, but also good. Just avoid the two that say Escape. Not sure about the Respironics machines. Most are really good, but a couple are not.

Who would have thought it would be this challenging to sleep and breathe at the same time?
