Worsened UARS/Sleep Apnea? after Weight Gain

Post by mangos21 » Thu Sep 01, 2016 2:46 pm

Hello all,

I recently gained about 15-20 lbs and accompanied with this has been significantly worsened sleep. I am physically waking up almost every hour. I am waiting for sleep study results which will come Monday (I had one in 2012 which showed UARS, but I felt OK most of the time so i didn't treat it). I've tried various things in the last month: CPAP at various pressures, nasal strips, nasal steroids, mandibular advancement device, sleeping almost completely upright, and a cervical neck collar all without any improvement. My nose is somewhat congested and i have constant post nasal drip. This has been constant for about 5-6 years. However, with the nose strips i can feel air going in with out much resistance before i am asleep.

ANything else I can do or try? I'm at my wits end and literally feel like death. I will try a sinus rinse and see how that goes tonight.

Maybe obvious, but if you're using the humidifier and local conditions are relatively humid right now, don't use the humidifier.

Also, download (free) Sleepyhead software and post the reports on Imgur.com, then leave a link to them in this thread so we can see what things look like and what might be going on.

Are you using a cpap machine right now?
If so, which brand and model?
Also at what settings...pressure? Are you using a humidifier? If so, at what setting?

currently not using the cpap after no success at various pressures. i tried pressures from 5 to 14. no humidifier use during this trial. i use a resmed s9 (cpap only, no apap function). i use a full face mask. i don't have the data card at the moment but i'll try to find it and upload it.
