Somnomed: Opinion/Advice?

Post by Capt.Spaulding » Sat Apr 02, 2016 12:58 pm

Does anyone have an opinion or experience with Somnomed? I am a mouthbreather. I have tried three different CPAP masks and I always ended up pulling them off in my sleep Too much pinching and pulling on my face. I tried Oracle and it was easier on my face but my dentist said it was bad for the mouth, too drying. He recommended Somnomed (Somno-Med?). Any thoughts?

Your dentist is correct about the drying effects of the Oracle mask. However, taking corrective action to increase the humidity supplied by your machine will make that problem go away. Did you experience dry mouth with the Oracle?
So, first try increasing the humidity on your machine, If you don't wake up with a dry mouth, you're in great shape.

Have you read my post on using the Oracle? A link is in my signature block below.

Full face masks present the same problem as the Oracle for mouth breathers and correcting the mask fit and slipping during the night won't solve the problem. More humidity will.

If you still cannot get enough humidity to last all night, here is how I solved that problem.

Here is my setup to solve this problem

Edit: It looks as if the Somnmed device is one that helps position the lower jaw to reduce obstructive sleep apnea. For some people these devices do work but they don't seem to claim any effects in reducing mouth breathing and that is what is the cause of dry mouth.

I have heard about the somnomed appliance from my dentist, he told me how he uses it and he loves it. with the somnomed appliance the mouth doesn't stay open just holds the jaw in a protruded position. he also offered me a procedure called nightlase. since i suffer from severe sleep apnea he said using both the appliance and the nightlase procedure i should be able to cut out the cpap all together. i should be starting on treatment within the next month, doesn't hurt to try something that'll make you feel better in the long run. he has a facebook page called nightlase California if any of you want to check it out, and hes been on cbs 2 news also.
