Rainout help needed
I had terrible rainout last night, like drowning. I read thru Pugy's pointers and copied this: So for rain out in the mask..options are
1..Reduce the incoming humidity from the humidifier...may or may not work as I know of people who don't even use a humidifier who get rain out in the mask. Also you nose may or may not like reduced humidity and that might create another annoying situation.
2..Warm up the air in the hose and mask....heated hose, hose cozy, barrel cozy
3..Warm up the bedroom air so that the air in the mask doesn't cool as easily.
I had my humidification turned down to 1, cause I had slight rainout the night before and believed this would help? Not sure I understand how/what to set my machine, PR System 1 60 series, to 'warm up the air in the hose and mask'. How do I do that? Warming up the air in the bedroom is not really an option, menopausal and would never sleep Guessing I should buy a hose cozy, anything else. I have a hose holder, the machine is lower than my bed, etc. Trying to do what I've read helps. When I removed the mask and hose, they both just dripped water.
Any other suggestions/help much appreciated.

The humidifier shown in your profile indicates you can use a heated hose, do you? I found the heated tube works better for me than a cozy on a standard hose.
If you do decide to purchase a heated hose from our sponsors, be sure to call for their pricing instead of just ordering online. And they have a free ground shipping promotion at the moment.

Re: Rainout help needed
Do you have a heated hose? Rain out is caused by the same thing as lake effect snow, warm moist air flowing of a cold area (land or hose).
You are already looking at all the standard things to do, you can test out the cozy solution with a thick sock with the toe cut out or wrap it in a wash cloth with rubber bands or twist ties.
If the hose stays at the same temperature as the water tank then you not get rain out, if the hose is colder than you will get rain out

Re: Rainout help needed
I bought my heated hose, what my DME provider says is a heated hose, separate from my humidifier(which I bought from Greyghost). Is there a way to look at the hose to confirm it is heated? I will try the sock idea before investing in a hose cover, thanks!

Only time I have had rain out I filled the tank a little past the mark, happened twice. I dont do that anymore...lol. Just saying, be careful and dont overfill your tank.

The heated hose will have a dark connector end that has the electronic plug. The heated humidifier has a different connector for the heated hose. Here is the 60 series heated hose.Michelle-OH wrote:I bought my heated hose, what my DME provider says is a heated hose, separate from my humidifier(which I bought from Greyghost). Re: Rainout help needed
I know I don't have that heated hose, because I originally had a LUNA machine that I returned to the DME provider. But, I supposedly have a heated hose for the luna and it fits the 60 Series humidifier. I will research the LUNA hose to see if it is actually heated.OkyDoky wrote:The heated hose will have a dark connector end that has the electronic plug. Re: Rainout help needed
Well I think I figured out a huge part of my problem! When I returned the LUNA cpap machine and humidifier to my DME, I mistakenly added the power supply for the heated hose...because the idiot worker who 'explained' the whole system to me didn't explain that I had to plug that in as well! So, I have basically NEVER actually HEATED the hose, HA! I am waiting on a message from them to see if I can come in and pick up that part. It's not all their fault, cause I have directions, I am just cpap challenged, lol. Thanks to cpap.com where I can view pics of how this is all supposed to work together! Hopefully once I am actually using the heated hose correctly, my rainout problem will be solved!

Re: Rainout help needed
Edit: Sorry we seem to have posted at the same time but I'll leave this here in case it is helpful.
I couldn't find anything about a heated hose for the Luna, only the heated humidifier. If you look at your humidifier or the one in the image in your profile, you'll see a connection for the hose heater unit at the top of the hose connector. A heated hose would plug into this instead of just slipping the rubber end over the opening. If your hose has the same connector on both ends (a rubber end) then it isn't heated, it is standard. Any standard hose will fit this humidifier but the reverse is not true, if the humidifier doesn't have connector for a heated hose, it can only use a standard hose because there's no place to plug in the heater element.

Re: Rainout help needed
Usually heated hoses are brand specific. There are some stand alone ones but I don't believe the Luna hose would work.
First off does the top of your humidifier look like this one? https://www.cpap.com/productpage/respir ... ifier.html
Or this one? https://www.cpap.com/productpage/pr-sys ... ifier.html
The heated hose one takes an 80 watt power Supply while just the heated humidifier uses a smaller power supply (I think 60W but I'm not sure).
Let us know what you have.

Re: Rainout help needed
When I looked at the info on the Luna at cpap.com, it appears that you may be thinking about the power cord for the humidifier itself. The description can be a bit confusing when it says "Warm the air traveling through the CPAP hose by pairing the machine with the integrate heated humidifier." You already have a heated humidifier with the PR S1. Did you get this from your DME or did you purchase yourself? You may be eligible to get the heated hose through your DME if it went through insurance, or you may want to buy the heated hose for yourself if you self paid for your equipment. You will also need the appropriate power supply.Michelle-OH wrote:Well I think I figured out a huge part of my problem! The power cord definitely plugs into the hose, wouldn't that mean it is for the hose? I got it from the DME when I got the LUNA from them.

Good, so you probably have the 80 Watt power supply, it will tell you on the brick part. Now all you need the this heated hose. https://www.cpap.com/productpage/pr-sys ... -tube.html
If you decide to get it from them be sure and call for pricing.
Basicly your Luna hose was only working as a regular hose and not a heated because it didn't have the connections to your humidifier that control the hose.
Until you get the heated hose go ahead and wrap your hose as suggested and if necessary some even wrap their heated hoses.

Re: Rainout help needed
I haven't seen or heard of any hose that uses a power cord itself except for this one http://www.amazon.com/3B-Medical-3BCL-1 ... nd-details. It has an on/off switch but I don't think it can be adjusted like the PR heated hose that comes with the PR S1 humidifier. If it worked for you with the Luna, maybe it will with the PR S1 also once you get the power supply.Michelle-OH wrote:
