FS: ResMed ResScan Smart Card Reader for S8 and S8 II $25

Post by davecpap » Tue Dec 29, 2015 11:43 am

I have a USED ResMed ResScan Smart Card Reader for S8 and S8 II. Includes my data card if you need it, I wrote over my name in permanent marker as you can see in image below. I used ResScan to wipe the data on the card.

Asking $25 shipped (meaning the price includes shipping costs). I'll send it in a priority mail small flat rate box.

If posting things for sale isn't allowed please let me know. I did look around prior to posting and didn't see anything saying for sale posts are not allowed.

2-3 years ago there were several people looking for the reader. Currently I don't think there are very many S8 users on the board.

It was hard to find. I got this from CpapShop.com.au (yes, Australia!) in the summer of 2010. I couldn't find any USA DMEs / websites who would sell me one.

There was a guy here just today who is want to try cpap again and I think he has an old S8 machine.
Don't know if he has the smart card.
We were going to try just using the LCD data but ResScan detailed data would be so much better because we likely are going to have leak concerns since there may be some mouth breathing going on.

It's the guy in this thread.

I hadn't really talked about using software because I didn't think he had the reader and I knew that finding one was next to impossible. You might ask him if he is interested.

Would need to confirm that his machine uses a Smart card for data transfer and not the special cable system.

Any S8 can use the smart card. The S8 "data card module" is not essential for using a smart card. It is just a plain piece of plastic with a slot for inserting the data card and no electronics. Some S8's have a plain cover panel without a slot instead of the data card module--but the smart card can still be used by removing the cover panel. The electrical contacts for the data card are an inch or two inside the machine on the motherboard. There is another set of contacts visible when you remove the cover panel, but they are not used by the smart card.

I think Pugsy was referring to the Resmed USB or Serial cables, you pop off the "data card module" aka the plastic cover with slot for the smart card, and you can plug in a USB module, a Serial port module, or the ResLink module that records pulse oximetry data.

Here is a nice page with all the various connectivity options:

I miss my S8 AutoSet II - I like how compact it was with the humidifier removed, especially since no power brick (built in power supply!). Very quiet, compact and capable for travel.

I was assuming that the person now revisiting trying cpap therapy had the S8 but it is a 10 year old machine and it could maybe be a S7 model which might only have the cable system available for data transfer.
Often when people say "it's been 10 years since I tried the darn machine" it actually has been longer and we don't know exactly which model they have. He didn't say S8...I was just thinking probably S8.
Also depending on the exact model those really old models didn't collect much detailed data so even if it was smart card capable there wouldn't be much to report and would be a waste of money to get a reader for a machine that didn't collect the data we want.

I have one of these card readers (original Resmed) as well as the data stick that you put into the back of the S8 in case anyone needs one.

(I just gave away my old S8 to a friend who needed a spare, but she wasn't interested in the card reader or data stick).

Thanks RandyJ for the card reader give-away. I'll bookmark this reply cuz a few times a year somebody will need one because they love their old machine.

I like my ResMed AirFit F10 FFM - reasonably low leaks for my ASV therapy. I'm currently using a PR S1 AutoSV 960P Advanced. I also keep a ResMed S9 Adapt as backup. I use a heated Hibernite hose. Still rockin' with Win 7 by using GWX to stop Win 10.

The problem isn't the reader, but rather the software, which hasn't work since Windows XP for me.
