Travel CPAP questions

Post by txhawk » Sun Dec 27, 2015 3:58 pm

My home machine is a Resmed S9 & Swift FX mask, works great.

I have a Transcend auto for travel. I really like it, with just 2 issues. (humidification, & whine noise)

I've used CPAP for about 5 years, always with the same mask (swift FX nasal pillows). I suspect some of the whine noise with the Transcend II is tied to the mask.

But the noise is a nuisance, lack of humidification is the main problem. I really like the small footprint of the travel cpap. I am hoping to learn of an in-line waterless humidification / mask combo that will work. (I would prefer not to haul my S9 on travel)

So, for the travel questions:

1) What humidification / mask system do you use with the Transcend II (or Z1) cpap?

2) Any travel tips you can share about using the travel cpaps?

thanks!

I travel every week and use the HME's from Direct Home Medical and for the last year the Q-Tube for noise supression.

If you are travelling to a Ocean distination why even worry about humidification attachments for your cpap.
Travelling to Vegas(desert you will need something).

bill-e, what mask do you use?

Yes I've been looking at the Z1 & Transcend waterless humidifiers, but they won't work with my current mask. (may need to change mask with my travel cpap)

And, yes I know I don't need a humidifying option when I travel to a humid local.

You can use both of these? One goes at one end of the hose and one at the other? Thanks.

Yes, as long as you use a standard size house you can use both of these. The Qtube goes on the output of the machine and then you connect your hose. The HME goes between the mask end of your hose and the Mask. I use an F&P Eson mask.

I have recently gone on a trip where I forgot my HME's and what I did was run the shower with the bathroom door open for about 10 minutes, enough to show condensation on the mirrors in the room. That provided enough humidification for me to fall asleep. I am very sensitive to dry air passageways so I absolutely need some kind of humidification to sleep.
