Still Got Problems Help If You Can

Post by seeing you » Thu Dec 24, 2015 6:27 am

Machine ResMed Air Sense 10 auto with Mirage Quattro Mask. I gave up took a rest from fighting the night use of c-pap now going to try again. Nose pillows are out tried them again so have to stay with Quattro mask. What has happened in the past I can get mask set while sitting on side of the bed no leaks and it feels good. I lay down have it set to manual 3 tube at 65 degrees. Ramp when I gave up I had set first for five minutes then ten minutes. I sleep on my side tried the back just can not get to sleep that way at 71 years old been on my side too many years I guess. I am also a mouth breather so trying to get my tongue to stay in roof of mouth when I go to sleep it is that way but I am sure once asleep it does not stay that way just not sure on that. Now off to sleep what wakes me up is once pressure is built up seems this mask how do I say moves up and down as I take a breath. So feel like someone tickles my face hence I wake up feels like it is leaking but must not be it does not show on meter. Some nights I am sleeping well but have to get up for bath room then back to bed and I put mask on the same way but once I lay down feels like air leaking I feel of the area can not feel any and next morning does not show on meter if it was. I have called supplier several times but she just had no further ideas so does any one have an suggestions ? I know I feel better using it but getting tired of waking up and then mask not feeling right once I get back in bed yuck. End results is I finally take it off most times from feeling it crawling on my face I guess it is rising up and down is what I feel anyway end of use for that night. I may get four at times five hours maybe. For dry mouth so far all suggestions given on here have not worked. I tried tape, two kinds of mouth moisturizer. Which is better four or five hours or more sleep with out unit. My apnea was not terrible bad, weight is down way down so any help appreciated. Merry Christmas and Happy New Year. Larry

Don't take the mask off! Once on for the night, it stays there.

Disconnect the hose from the machine and wrap the hose around your neck. When you return to bed, unwrap the hose from your neck and reconnect it to the machine. Your mask is still in place and positioned and adjusted as it was before.

Disconnecting the hose from the machine and reconnecting it is easier if you use a quick release connector on the end of the hose that attaches to the machine. https://www.cpap.com/productpage/hose-q ... nnect.html

Here are some tips to reduce unintentional mask leak -

- Make sure the mask is fitted properly. (See mask manufacturer's video.)

- Make sure the headgear is adjusted properly (See mask manufacturer's video.)

- Make sure to use good hose management - the hose should not pull on the mask. Notice how your hose is positioned between machine and mask. It should be positioned to minimize any pull on the mask. Hose management is an individual practice. How it is done depends on the mask, the position of the machine, your sleeping position and other factors specific to the individual.

- If you still have problems, learn from the forum what mask liners are available.

- If your mask still has excessive leak, try other masks. Many people report trying several masks before they find one that works well for them.

Good luck!

Yes the mask seem to pulsate with each breath. You will become accustom to that with a little time.
After 70 years with out anything on your face .... it will take some time to make a new habit of using the mask and machine. We all have gone through the same thing you are going through.
I am 5 yrs your senior and it took me several months to become accustom the the hole process, and after a 1 1/2 yrs I still have a bad night occasionally.
Hang in there .... it will get better ... and it is worth the effort.
If you're not part of the solution you're just scumming up the bottom of the beaker!

Why disconnect the hose? Easier to disconnect from the mask, then you don't have to wrap anything around your neck. Just lay the hose across your pillow. Perhaps if you are afraid of forgetting to reconnect to the mask, it would be better to put it around your neck, though.

EDIT: I see now that this method was mentioned by Granny, who has given you good advice all the way through.

Some of us like to keep the machine below the level of the top of the mattress. If you disconnect the hose from the mask, there is a chance the hose will fall onto the floor when you return to the bed. Hence, the suggestion to disconnect from the machine.

Reasons to place machine below the level of the top of the mattress: 1) It reduces machine noise reaching your ears, and 2) If you get rainout in the hose, it runs harmlessly back into the humidifier tank.
