newbie to cpap therapy
hello everyone ! im new to this whole thing as i just got diagnosed in october, and just recieved my machine (resmed airsense 10) on 12/10/15. i just downloaded sleepyhead software as i want to be able to monitor my therapy to make sure im getting the most out of it. my prescribed pressure is 9.0cm, i believe it should maybe be more but im no doctor!! im using a full face mask (resmed airfit f10) which i may be switching out for something different. at my sleep study i had something like 22 apnea's per hour and in the rem stage it jumped to like 88 per hour. according to the sleepyhead software my ahi is kinda all over the place in the 2 weeks ive had the machine. first few days was .045 per hr to last night 8.88 per hr. seems most nights its 4-5. which is why i said i believe i need more constant pressure, but idk. it does seem the events happen in the last few hrs of sleep. im gonna try to upload my data and maybe someone could help me try to get pointed in the right direction. i know its a small sample size of only a couple weeks! thanks in advance!!

If you're not part of the solution you're just scumming up the bottom of the beaker!

Re: newbie to cpap therapy
also thinking im gonna change the machine to a auto setting with a min pressure of 9.0 and a max of 20.0 to see if that will lower my number of events.

Probably wouldn't be a problem to run it in auto and see what your data looks like. I defer to those more knowledgeable on this - just wondering if decreasing your EPR might help you stay at a lower pressure. Do give each effort a fair chance - sometimes it takes a while to settle in. Would hate to see you make a change on night 2 when on night 4 it may have been just fine. Good luck with everything.

Re: newbie to cpap therapy
What kteague said.... I am also somewhat new to this. Would kill for your low numbers on the majority of nights. Just based on what I have read here so far, you need to be a little patient with the setting changes. I've gotten some excellent feedback/advice here, and try to give each new setting at least a week to try to establish some sort of baseline. Some night's you are just not going to sleep well. But if it is one out of seven and the other six you slept great, well then there might be other factors that tanked you that one night.
Being so close to Christmas, some of the most knowledgeable people may not be on for a few days. So try to be patient. I know it's hard. Trust me, I know. LOL.
One other thing....if you are tolerating the new mask fairly well I would put off changing if you can. Why add another variable to the equation? Having said that, if the mask is uncomfortable or causing you lost sleep, then by all means shop around.

Re: newbie to cpap therapy
thanks for the input. i'll take it slow, dealt with extreme tiredness for yrs whats a few more months!! i did switch it to auto with max pressure of 20.0cm. when i awoke i looked and it was at 11.0cm so i assume i did infact need more pressure. it did drop my ahi to 0.21 !!! my best nights sleep so far. could definitely tell a difference in how i felt this morning.
