Whats new out there in CPAP machines?
Whats new out there in CPAP machines?
I was on this forum about 5 years ago. At the time having a little trouble getting started with my new CPAP machine. Once I got the right mask (Mirage FX) I was off and running and have not looked back. I love my CPAP and I look forward to bed.
Well my trusty ole work horse of a machine (REMstar Auto A-flex System One) has in the last few months started getting louder. Almost a turbo sound on exhale. It does not happen all the time, but it is loud enough to drive me nuts. So I am starting to research new machines, and I want to know what is new out there. One can read all the adds but they do not tell the real story. If you go straight to the suppliers they want to sell you on their machine. So I thought I would come back over to the users and see what you all like. I would like something small, 12v compatable, quiet, with humidifier. I understand that most machinces wont humidify on back up power. I have to have my Mirage FX mask and I run a 14 on my pressure.
I know this is a very loaded question, and it probley gets asked here a bunch. Please forgive me for asking if that is the case.

Although a simple search on CPAP.com would reveal current CPAP machines, the newest auto is either the Resmed Airsense 10 Autoset (or Autoset for Her), and the Philips Respironics DreamStation Auto CPAP. Maybe take a look at those? You didn't ask about masks, and I'm not tellin'

Re: Whats new out there in CPAP machines?
Just got my Respironics a DreamStation and disappointed Sleepyhead software does not yet support that new model.
More disconcerting is that appears you have to buy a Phillips Respironics DreamStation SD at a very premium price which smacks of money grabbing if that is correct.
Apparently you have to purchase their software too.
Please to be corrected if I am in error.

I have been there and did more then a simple search. I have spent lots of time there reading through the info. But the manufactures sales data never tells the full story. The reviews help, but even they dont give you solid info. Many things look great on paper and once you get home in the real world things turn out different. So I ask here, maybe there isnt anything new that people are really liking. Thats ok..
And ya I am not changing my mask LOL

If you take a few minutes to look...almost everyone has their machine and mask listed at the bottom of their post. In a few minutes it becomes obvious what the most popular machines are. we wouldn't be using them if we didn't like them.Pienaar wrote:Thank you for taking the time to reply.Sleeprider wrote:Although a simple search on CPAP.com would reveal current CPAP machines, the newest auto is either the Resmed Airsense 10 Autoset (or Autoset for Her), and the Philips Respironics DreamStation Auto CPAP. Count out Resmed Brand, unpower friendly. Plus they started the don't sell at a discounted price on the internet. (Price fixing and gouging) Jim

On the other hand, I love my Resmed, and feel it is worth a little more.
Different strokes, ya know.

How fast does it blow on 12 volts d/c? Jimchunkyfrog wrote:On the other hand, I love my Resmed, and feel it is worth a little more.

Without a overpriced DC to DC converter?

Newest isn't always a good thing in my estimation. I'm hearing of numerous complaints about the newest Airsense machines and the glitches they seem to be susceptible to. Accordingly, I went with a good, old S9 Autoset as my choice for a replacement machine back in April. There's something to be said for anything that's "tried and true" . YMMV, good luck.

My backup is an Intellipap Autoadjust. I even have the battery pack.
I like that it plugs into the car, in case there's no room at the inn.
Some folks have this machine as their primary, and it is pretty decent.
