New Airsense 10 Auto - where to set pressure

Post by dooger54 » Mon Dec 21, 2015 4:57 pm

Getting my first CPAP, ordering tomorrow from CPAP.com. My titration study recommended a pressure of 8. What range should I use? 8-12 maybe? First time for me!

Then you set it for a straight pressure of 8 cm.
You need to verify whether their recommendations are right or wrong. No ranges for now. There will always be time for that.
I would also avoid setting an EPR setting, too. They wouldn't have used exhale relief in the sleep study.

I have to agree with Wufman to set it at 8cm/02 and see what kind of results you get. You should download sleepyhead or Rescan 5.5 or both to see what is going on with your respiratory system.
Software tells you what is going on and its interesting I find.
If you are having a bad results you can adjust or just put it on auto to find the sweet spot for you. ( I like a near constant pressure my self)

Your DME should have the machine already set at 8 when you get it.

The OP is getting the machine from CPAP.COM. They may or may not set it according to the prescription. Straight CPAP machines can only be set to straight pressure (of course), but they may ship an APAP with a wide open ( 4-20 ) range.

I purchased a new APAP from CPAP.com (their actual store here in the Houston area), and it was set wide open. As I recall, their paperwork said that was their standard policy. (They had my Rx, which stated 8.)

Yeah. All the APAPs I purchased from them were set to 4 - 20, too. My original Rx was for 18 cm. which was way too much for me, but I at least "tried" it for a little bit before resetting my first straight-pressure REMstar Pro 2 to 10 cm........which was pretty close to a good therapy pressure for me. And, I used software from the very beginning to check my therapy.

Correct, I am buying direct from CPAP.com. Will set it initially at 8. I also plan to install Sleepyhead and will report back here with results. Should I give it a week or so before I enter the data into Sleepyhead so I get more info that way?

Yeah, a week would be a relatively decent starting period. Sometimes more or less depending on circumstances. If you're brand new at this, it can take awhile to sort out lots of idiosyncrasies that will present themselves.

Good luck.

You need to verify whether their recommendations are right or wrong. No ranges for now. There will always be time for that.
I would also avoid setting an EPR setting, too. They wouldn't have used exhale relief in the sleep study.

So if I set it for a straight 8, am I not giving up the benefits of an auto adjusting machine?

No........you're going to verify whether or not they got your pressure "correct" in your titration.

Personally, I don't consider changing pressures all night long.......disturbing my sleep.......to be a "benefit".
Some people can tolerate the changing pressures and some people can't.......or at least they sleep better without the changing pressures.
BUT, that's not what your "trial" with the prescribed pressure is all about.
