New to the CPAP Machine

Post by Bcatz31 » Tue Dec 15, 2015 9:40 pm

This is my first week with the CPAP machine and i'm having a lot of struggles with it. The first one is I have been taking it off in my sleep. I have actually walked in my sleep with the mask on my face. I didn't wake up until I was downstairs and I have no clue how long i was down there. I just heard the mask blowing air upstairs.. Any tips on how to sleep though the night and keep it on? The other nights i have had it I would only get though 1-4 hours each night. Everyone I have talked to about it has told me that is just something to get used to but has anyone had an experience like this every night. Also I have been waking up with a red ring around my face on the one day i managed to use it. Anyone have any tips on what to do about it? I have tried contacting my DME provider and my doctor about it but they both seemed to be fed up with all of the questions that I have been asking.

Not to mention I really feel like i have been diagnosed, the sleep technician doesn't understand why I have been diagnosed with what i was. I had 65 apneas an hour. During the two hours that i had my sleep study I had 171 central episodes and only 9 obstructive sleep episodes. Yet they diagnosed me with the Obstructive sleep apnea? I don't understand this logic.

The reason that I feel that this matters is because the two mornings that i woke up I had extreme pain in my stomach. I also started getting severe pains in my chest as well. If i had the central sleep apnea would it matter for that? They have me using a resmed AutoSense 10 and the full face mask.

Why not start by giving us some information...like...what mask are you using that is giving you so much trouble? What machine are you using and what are your pressures? How about registering and putting your information in your Control Panel?

Place a couple pieces of tape your mask/mask straps and on your face. When you take the mask off at night, it will wake you up. Of course if you walk around the house at night with the mask on, this won't help. There is not much you can do about the redness. I live with mine. Getting a wash cloth wet with hot water (hot as you can stand) and wiping the area can help. Also put lotion on the area. Fill in the info on your profile. That will tell us what kind of machine you have. Most machines have exhale relief. That will help with the chest pains. The exhale relive will drop the pressure upon exhaling... making it easier to breath out. Work all your issues here. Do a search for a specific topic.

Please get a copy of your original sleep study and post it here. It's just the summary, which is usually one to three pages and includes the doctor's diagnosis. It is very important to understand the diagnosis!

Are you taking any drugs or supplements?

No, I'm not taking any supplements at all. As for the sleep study I have a cop of it, I will take a picture and upload it here later today

Maybe you are at work and don't want to log in. But, it is better to log in when you can. This allows helpful members to better follow your progress.
