SleepyHead Software Newbie and My First Step
SleepyHead Software Newbie and My First Step
First I"d like to say I've been on the CPAP for seven years and it's been a struggle. Lately, I've been feeling worse and it may be due to poor sleep. Recently, on more than one morning, I have four or five cups of coffee and then go back to sleep and feel tired/groggy until night time.
I have a Resmed 9s and a slot on my computer that can read an SD card. I found a site with Sleephead software but when I tried to download it, it had been removed. Where can I find an ABSOLUTELY SAFE copy of Sleephead to download. I can't take any risks with this computer. Not mine.
Thanks

Thanks for the link! I was there but got nervous when it suggested a "redirection" to another site. I will be downloading the 64 bit version. SleepyHead-Testing-0.9.8-1-T3-Windows-Installer.exe SO can I assumePugsy wrote:Follow the links here

it will work with my version of Windows 8.1 ???
Thanks

Re: SleepyHead Software Newbie and My First Step
Yes...that version will work with your Windows 8.1 and it even works with Windows 10 (along with older OS).
It's a safe redirect to a version of SleepyHead that is less problematic to install because the original version did things a little differently and caused some confusion.
Be sure to read the fine print about the possible missing dll files. I had to go get that missing MS file even on my new laptop not long ago.

When you click on "download" that is when you get to a page where you choose which one to download.
Choose the middle one...I forget the name of it but that's the one to use on your computer if it is 64 bit which I assume it is.

Re: SleepyHead Software Newbie and My First Step
The sleepy head software doesn't say that it supports the ResMed Airsence 10. Does anyone know if it does or if there is any other software that does?

SleepyHead does indeed work well with the AirSense machines.Nin6 wrote:The sleepy head software doesn't say that it supports the ResMed Airsence 10. Does anyone know if it does or if there is any other software that does?
You can also use ResScan if you wish...or both for that matter.

Thanks, much, Pugsy. I clicked the link and was taken to a Windows 10 download. Is that the link you meant to post?Pugsy wrote:Yes...that version will work with your Windows 8.1 and it even works with Windows 10 (along with older OS).

It suggested downloading more which is a bit too complicated. I downloaded Sleepyhead and have the SD card slot (and SD card) but I think I've gone as far as I can go.
I'll have to wait a bit until I get the energy. I've been on the CPAP for seven years now. Am now with a new sleep doc. Had a poor reaction to my sleep doc's prescription of Provigil (generic) made me very lightheaded and fatigued. Not a good med for me, but I'm also on Vyvance (a small dose) which is also a stimulant. Called pharmacist tonight and was told I shouldn't be on BOTH because they're both stimulants. Why would two of my docs not say anything about it and the pharmacist gives it a thumbs down? This was a rhetorical question. I don't know where to find good answers these days!

Re: SleepyHead Software Newbie and My First Step
It's not a Windows 10 download page...they are just promoting it on top. Scroll down a bit and see where it says Visual C++ Redistributable Packages
then look for the language to choose and the default is for English and there's a big red download box that you click on and then you get taken to a page where you choose from 3 files for that MS package.
The middle one is likely the one you will need.
Download it and then just install it like you would any other program. Do NOT try to put it in Sleepyhead though. SleepyHead looks for it on it's regular spot on a Windows computer..

I should put this in a private message because it's strictly software related, but ... I need help... and so I have to take the risk.Pugsy wrote:It's not a Windows 10 download page...they are just promoting it on top. Scroll down a bit and see where it says Visual C++ Redistributable Packages

Which do I install first? Sleepyhead? Then I install the C program? (I made a system restore point just in case things don't go as planned). lol
Again, thanks!

Re: SleepyHead Software Newbie and My First Step
Install SleepyHead first...then attempt to launch/open it and it will tell you if it is missing anything.
I don't know but your computer may already have that little packet. Not everyone has to do this one step.
Go back to the Sleepyhead download page and read what it says about the fact that you may see the missing dll library files. It's an older Windows packet that SH needs and will look for but you may or may not even need it.
I was just warning you that once you installed SH you might see that message when you try to open SH so you would be prepared.

Re: SleepyHead Software Newbie and My First Step
Pugsy, I can't thank you enough! It's done. Software works fine. It did need that additional .dll file. Now all I have to know is what data to upload here. Incidentally, the Dell technician, who remoted into my computer to help me with Sleepyhead, also has sleep apnea. Now that he knows, I wouldn't be surprised if he logged on to this site. Talk about serendipity.Pugsy wrote:Install SleepyHead first...then attempt to launch/open it and it will tell you if it is missing anything.

So, what's my next step? I can hardly wait!

Preliminary Data (just a little)
Here's a couple of things I saw in the Sleepyhead data:Pugsy wrote:Install SleepyHead first.
Last year my average AHI was .13
Last week it was .51
Last year my average apnea .07
Last week it was .24
My average hypopnea for the year was .01
for the week was .18
Last year my average leak rate was 6.99
Last week it was 4.23
(maybe due to opening my mouth?)
Incidentally, I was told my Resmed air pressure is set between 5 to 8
Are those numbers significant? Is there any indication I can stop using the CPAP (maybe wishful thinking!) but it sure makes me happy just thinking about it!

Those numbers are all very good numbers.DeeCPAP wrote:Are those numbers significant? Is there any indication I can stop using the CPAP (maybe wishful thinking!) but it sure makes me happy just thinking about it!
Nice low AHI and the leak number is also nice and low.
These numbers with the software are not going to tell you what your AHI would be if you didn't use the machine...it's only telling you what happened or what apnea events slipped pasted the defenses.
It can't tell you what was prevented.
I get an AHI of less than 1.0 almost every night and I often see 0.0 AHI...but that doesn't mean I could do without my machine..it just means I don't have the 50 something events that I would be having without cpap.
Even if you used the minimum pressure of 4 cm and got really nice low AHI numbers wouldn't necessarily mean that the sleep apnea went away for some reason because even 4 cm pressure has therapy value and could potentially be enough to prevent airway collapse.
So the machine is reporting what slipped past the defenses...and not reporting what the AHI would be without cpap.
Sorry, didn't want to rain on your parade about doing without cpap but the truth is the truth.
Now if you happened to have done something that may have impacted your sleep apnea status....like lose a huge amount of weight or had some sort of surgery designed to help with sleep apnea....I would tell you to have another sleep study for final determination of sleep apnea status and not rely on what the machine is reporting because we can't use these machines for that level of determination.
They can be used for screening in some instances but for accurate final status one needs a real sleep study done without cpap at all.

Re: SleepyHead Software Newbie and My First Step
Thanks SO much Pugsy!
Great that the numbers are good. I'm surprised because I don't feel as rested as I did before
the CPAP because I think I keep struggling to be aware of pullng it off or excessively
dry mouth when I sleep.
Does this also mean the remaining statistics don't matter?
Thanks!
