Re: sleepyhead stats help!!
Guess I did something wrong? Just three months into my journey and feel like I have learned a lot but don't understand my charts. I know they are good on this night but would like to know how to read and adjust. The tutorial was helpful but still not grasping everything. Thanks for anyone's help. Just feel like my dr and respirate do not care. I had to learn how to change pressure bc respirate never sends me my cards and then it takes a month for a dr to prescribe a change which I feel like isn't enough for my three months to be in compliance.
Re: sleepyhead stats help!!
Your reports are unremarkable except for maybe the period of large leak at the end of the night.
We don't need all those graphs...just the events, flow rate, leak, pressure graphs on the right along with the AHI and statistics on the left.
See this thread for examples
viewtopic/t103468/Need-help-with-screen-shots.html
There is no need to redo these though...just mentioning it for maybe future screen shots.
How to organize the graphs explained here
https://sleep.tnet.com/resources/sleepyhead/shorganize
It's hard to "explain" what you are seeing and not understanding without having something concrete to explain.
What is it that you don't understand? That would help us a lot if we had a specific question to try to answer.
In general...I don't bother with anything more than the basics...AHI and leak....if both those data points are within acceptable limits I really don't dig all that deep into the reports.
For newbies I think understanding the basics first is a starting point.
For AHI basics...I look for AHI less than 5.0 and without clustering because sometimes the AHI can be low but still have some ugly clustering that might affect how a person feels.
For Leak basics...I look for not so much a perfect 0.0 leak but I am okay with a few leaks as long as they don't wake me up (anything that wakes us up is unwanted no matter how small) and I don't spend a huge amount of time in large leak territory. Looks like in your leak report the mask moved a lot right at the end of the night. I wouldn't worry about that time frame. It's not horribly long and the rest of the night the leak was well within acceptable limits.
So...on paper your reports aren't screaming out "fix me".
Now you might not be feeling the good numbers for other reasons but that's a different discussion.
If you need something clarified...just ask...we don't mind and I don't know what part of my tutorial ramblings you are having trouble with. I don't mind specific questions and would be happy to answer them.
I just don't know what you need at this point.

Re: sleepyhead stats help!!
I guess question is when you have episodes or a bad night is it mainly bc of leaks? I struggled finding the right pressure but believe I'm in a good place. I've been under 3 ahi for 5 nights. Before hand was terrible for 2 months. But last night my wife says I was snoring and pulled my mask off a couple of times. So just wanna know how to perfect this by using the charts and understand when I take it off why am I taking it off because I don't remember doing it.

That's hard to answer without seeing the chart for the bad night. There are more factors than leaks in causing a bad night.Jbobby22 wrote:I guess question is when you have episodes or a bad night is it mainly bc of leaks?
Maybe you can use Pugsy's instructions and post that example of last night.

Yes...like CG says...Though that's a hard question to answer even with or without seeing the bad nights.Jbobby22 wrote:I guess question is when you have episodes or a bad night is it mainly bc of leaks?
And often even with seeing the bad nights we might not have a clear cut answer.
The software can give us some indications of where things could stand improvement but that doesn't always mean that the bad night was caused by something we see.
Because sometimes we just take the mask off because the brain decided it wanted the mask gone and it may or may not have had a good reason for being annoyed with the mask.Jbobby22 wrote: So just wanna know how to perfect this by using the charts and understand when I take it off why am I taking it off because I don't remember doing it.

thanks for all the responses.. just really want to be compliant and keep my machine... this is the last month i get to prove it to my insurance..

Re: sleepyhead stats help!!
The bad night has a time frame where there is considerable clustering of a lot of events...leaks were NOT the cause of those events during that time frame. Your leak rate is fine for that time frame.
For that time frame your pressure was not sufficient to keep the airway from collapsing.
The 2 most common factors when we see clustering of events like this where the pressure just can't get the job done well is either supine sleeping or REM stage sleep or maybe a little of both.
The first cluster could maybe be REM stage sleep but REM doesn't normally last as long as we see the overall ugly clustering so I would tend to think supine sleeping is likely the main culprit.
What position do you normally sleep in?
Unfortunately you are already using almost maximum pressure available on your machine....plus you are using fixed cpap mode which turns off flow limitation flagging...so the absence of any flow limitations doesn't really mean anything. I am betting that along with the snores and OAs and hyponeas during that ugly period you also had a bunch of FLs but with FL flagging turned off we can't see it.
Your machine will only go to 20 cm...and you are at 19 cm already...1 more cm is unlikely to be enough to prevent that sort of clustering but would be worth letting the machine try.
Maybe use apap/auto mode and set it around 18 cm minimum and 20 cm maximum.
If this is solely related to sleeping on your back and you can stay off your back...you could probably get by with this machine but if it is REM stage sleep we can't control REM.
You may need a bilevel pressure machine that can go to 25 cm to deal with whatever it is that is happening during the ugly time.
Your pressures are so high already that you probably would find a bilevel pressure machine much easier and more comfortable.
How did they come up with this pressure setting? Did you have an in lab sleep titration study? Has anyone ever mentioned bilevel to you?

First I sleep on my stomach or side usually. My doctor just bumped me to 18 but I took it up to 19 to try it. And yes the lady at repsicare said she thought I'd need bipap machine.
Re: sleepyhead stats help!!
I bet your "good" nights you stay on your side or stomach but the "bad" nights have a little bit of supine sleeping going on.

Re: sleepyhead stats help!!
Quite possibly I am a very heavy sleeper so I don't ever remember much thru the night. If my ahi is 3 or under n I just have a few bad nights is that ok. Or something I need to talk to dr about?

Did you say what mask you are using? If you go to User Control Panel and fill our the equipment profile, the information will be readily available with each of your posts.

Re: sleepyhead stats help!!
At your pressures....I would be pushing for auto bipap so the machine could go higher if/when you need it.
I wouldn't be happy with an occasional ugly night like that when there is a way to prevent it.
Plus I think bilevel pressures would be easier for you and allow you to perhaps sleep a little better and/or more restfully.
That was one ugly time frame and the AHI during that time frame was close to 40....your overall AHI was reduced to not so ugly 9 because of the lack of events during the other parts of the night.
I wouldn't accept that as something I had to "just live with occasionally" when there is a way to prevent it.
40 apnea events during an hour....totally unacceptable.
Get a bipap auto...let the machine go there if needed and take care of the ugliness when/if it is needed.
Use lower pressures the rest of the night.

My doctor prescribes BiPAP when pressures are over 14.
