Dry AND wet (?)

Post by harrumph » Mon Dec 14, 2015 2:36 pm

Hi All,

I've been on this Airsense 10 for about six months. Something weird is happening now. I wake up (2-3 times) with a super-dry mouth, AND water is (sometimes) spewing droplets into the mask.

Before this development, I was okay with the machine, got AHI down to 7 from 40-50. But now, I'm developing an aversion to the therapy because of the aversion to being woken up with a desert-dry mouth yet a wet face.

Any thoughts?

Thanks.

Hello,
I dont know much about the Airsense 10 but it sounds like rain out to me. try lowering your machine below the bed and check your humidity setting, it may need adjusting. Someone should come along that knows what to do with your machine...good luck.

PS...u might want to post what kind of mask u use, that will help.

Sounds like you're mouth-leaking or mouth-breathing, your humidifier setting is way too high and it's causing "rainout" because your room is cool and the warm, humid water vapor traveling up the hose is condensing back into liquid.

Dry mouth is often a sign of an open mouth.
What mask are you using?

Rain out may be helped by using a heated hose and turning up the settings for the hose.

Have you looked at your data in Sleepyahead?
If not it can give you dramatic insight into what is or is not happening with your therapy.

For example large leaks shown in SH may indicate open mouth, which would help to explain the dry mouth.
Also an AHI of 7 suggests you are not receiving optimized therapy and can use some fine tuning.

Get SH and post your reports here to get help zeroing in on better results. Obviously your doc is not paying attention in detail.

You didn't mention what mask, but, if you are using a P10, at 9mm H2O, if you get rain out, the vents will clog with water (the pressure isn't enough to push it out), and you will breath through your mouth when your CO2 levels rise. This leads to a wet mask, wet nose, and dry mouth. It happened to me once when I was fiddling with my humidifier settings.

I can only imagine that this could happen with other vent designs, and the mouth breathing thing would also happen if you got water up your nose.

Thanks everybody: I did touch the humidity settings around the time this started now that I think about it. I'm going to work on settings tonight and also install Sleepyhead. Will report back!

Okay, so I have Sleepyhead running, I extracted the SD card, I write-protected the card, imported the data and was surprised that zero AHI data is on the card. Does anybody have any thoughts about that? Usage, session times, pressure are there but total time in apnea and AHI are blank.

Took me by surprise.

Hi,

Sorry, no, it's a full-face mask. It says AirFit F10.

I want to check your machine model/REF #. Take your humidifier off and turn your machine over and check the number. I want to be sure it is an Elite and not a CPAP.
