Hi All:
Has anyone had an in home sleep study before? Does it accurately track central and obstructive separately? Does it track hypopneas?
Also, is it difficult to execute at home? Mine is scheduled for next week.

Looks like you are scattering posts around the forum. Some logged in, some as a guest.

Re: In home sleep study
Here in northern Canada we use home testing with Auto Cpap machines set to their clinical settings to determine severity( I had the machine for 1 week) , I use to snore very heavily so I knew I had issues.
I have been using Auto cpap for approx. 7 yrs- it works. More complicated cases would have to spend a night in the hospital or clinic no doubt- costs are higher with hospital stays.

Yes, it accurately tracks centrals, obstructive and hypopneas.Toonces wrote:Hi All:

I found a home study easier/more successful than a lab study. Chose a night when I was very tired and slept 7 1/2 hours without waking up.

Kaiser Permanente exclusively uses home sleep studies and home titrations unless you have something really unusual. They use a device like this: http://www.itamar-medical.com/WatchPAT% ... ofessional
It's very comfortable and easy to use and has validated accuracy for everything they measure. It may not diagnose very complex issues, but most people have "run of the mill" OSA.
IMHO, home testing is preferable to in lab testing. It's in your own bed and sleeping conditions, it's comfortable and far less expensive. If I had been required to do an in lab test, I'd still be undiagnosed and treated, because I would have been EXTREMELY uncomfortable with having all the wires attached, sleeping in a strange bed and being watched. And you don't have to put up with bad conditions--I've seen people here who had in lab tests complain about uncomfortable beds, temperatures too hot or cold in the room, surly techs, noise from other patients, hair full of goo, etc. Who needs that????

Re: In home sleep study
I did at home testing with http://www.snapdiagnostics.com I used the kit for 3 nights, then took it back to the Dr. office. Worked out fine for me. I had a sensor on my finger, a band around my chest, and a nose piece that recorded snoring. It detected all the events you asked about.
